Manual 'box 'reintroduction' on GT3
Discussion
That's fantastic new! I wonder how that statement will impact the marketplace! Mine is currently at Reading OPC, I've had so many niggling electrical faults its getting annoying! Just had the thermostat replaced as it wasn't reading the temperate accurately, fan coming on constantly as well as intermittent faulty handbrake light coming on!
Newest Sport Auto has the official confirmation from Andreas Preuninger that future GT3s will be available with both transmissions once again.
He also confirmed that the GT3RS won't be the last RS with a N/A engine, so there are more N/A manual GT3 and GT3 RS coming in the future, good news!

This is fabulous news! Perhaps the manual gearboxed NA engined sports car is not quite ready to die just yet!He also confirmed that the GT3RS won't be the last RS with a N/A engine, so there are more N/A manual GT3 and GT3 RS coming in the future, good news!

I hope they do make a new manual one, i'm sure it would be epic!Wonder where that would leave the 991 though, if its sandwiched between a manual 997 GT3 and a manual 992 GT3, how will it be viewed as a second hand prospect?

I was wondering the same thing. The 991 GT3 will probably go down in history as the highest revving GT3, because their official statement on PDK-S only was that the engine revs too fast and too high for a manual version.
We all know that is marketing BS, but that statement will allow them to back down on the redline for the next N/A 992 because they'll say they had to do it to enable a manual version to be built. Again marketing BS, clearly they'll need the lower redline because the 991 GT3 is lunching engines left and right.
On the other hand if there's a manual 992 GT3 with 9k RPM engine (unlikely IMO), the 991 will be known as the PDK-S only GT3 with a chocolate engine.
The question is how many people on here who bought a GT3 new would have ordered it in manual if it was available? And of those people who have now sampled PDK s, how many would go back to a manual GT3?
I suspect demand for manual is stronger in the secondhand market than it is in the new market. I for one would go manual but I'm not buying this car new.

Manual all day long. I don't give a hoot about having the quickest car in the village. I suspect demand for manual is stronger in the secondhand market than it is in the new market. I for one would go manual but I'm not buying this car new.
Would be great news if Porsche did bring back a manual GT3 as a drivers' car as opposed to a car aiming to set quick lap times.
I'll be up front and declare an interest as an owner of a 997.2RS. No sure what the impact will be on the earlier manual cars like the 997 (and most owners aren't going to die in a ditch if they drop a bit anyway) but they are also sufficiently different to the latest breed of VAG 911s that it's not just about the manual box. It's a big part of it but there's more too.
I reckon a manual 991.2 GT3/RS will be a great thing but it will still be loaded with technology and be a very different proposition to a 997. I'm sure I'd like one if they ever show up but I wouldn't sell the 997RS to get one and I think many owners will take the same view.
The current PDK 991GT3 and RS will also have a place as lots of people like them and they are epic cars by many standards and I can't see why they would sit a long way from the rest of the GT3 line up in terms of desirability over the medium/long term unless they do have some kind of major issue.
All IMHO of course.

This is a key point. Even if they offer a Gen2 991 GT3 manual - the liklihood is the majority will still be ordered in PDK-S format - no?
