IIRC both 993 and 996 C4's - all versions - had "titanium" coloured brake calipers?

Tho' admittedly red would have been an "Exclusive" option...

Don't like the front bumper ruins the lines of the car

On the charge of fussiness, we find the front bumper... Guilty!

Ok, we've done some more work to establish the veracity of the claims.

From our man in Germany who took the pics we've established

- the car is registered to Porsche
- the pics were taken within a 30 minute drive of Porsche's HQ
- the photographer had a good look under the car and established it is 4 wheel drive
- wheels had Carrera 4 inscribed
- interior and brakes were typical for an S
- it's not the new GT3 (totally standard interior including rear seats)
- it's not the new turbo, because there weren't any side air intakes and no turbocharger
- the photographer had to run away because the driver of the car wasn't amused when he saw him with a camera!

I don't think this is C4S of 997. The reason: Porsche introduces Turbo model first after regular 997 and S model, and it will be in a year's time, and then using it's chasis(4WD and wider) they will introduce 4S as less expensive but loaded model with all attractive features. This is their pattern. The aero kit and strange front end shown in pic tell this is done by someone on regular 997. Porsche can do better. With serious competitors around these days, Porsche might bring out both Turbo and 4S at the same time, I guess.

But the photographer reckons this car is 4WD, and if it is, then it must be an official product, however much it might not look like one.

Of course every TVR is a true original. You can imagine the board meetings now.

"I've had a fantastic idea. Let's make a car with the build quality of a Reliant Kitten, and put a MASSIVE engine in it. Just think it'll go like fk between breakdowns. They'll be loads of nobs out there who'll re-mortgage their houses to get into one."

They do, and there are.

Fair point Hobo, but when someone says your girlfriend's ugly My reaction was kneejerk, comparing the build quality of TVRs with Reliant was just unfair. Reliant had quite a modern production line (JOKE, JOKE, JOKE).

Just to add a new angle on this one, I've just found a Speedart Kit for the 997, at

www.design911.co.uk/index.htm?Region=UK

under "Speedart Products" (strangely...)

and the front spoiler here looks suspiciously like the Speedart one but with the extra (and according to many, myself included, superfluous) fussy bits such as the chin spoiler and extra "mouth" added on. If you look closely, you can almost see a join...

I would imagine that Porsche will be keen to get the newer derivatives of the 997 out asap considering they are still attempting to be selling the 996C4, 996C4S and 996 Turbo alongside the 997. Having looked extensively at both 996 and 997 it would be a very strange decision to order a new 996 C4S at this moment in time, as the 997S is worth ordering just for the interior, and is faster than the 996 C4S anyway. Therefore I would imagine that releasing the 4S would be a priority, in order to capture the 4wd premium. Porsche may also be realigning their rollout strategy to bring out the Turbo later on, to exert more of a halo effect on the lesser models later in their life.

Something looks wrong about those photos, especially the 2nd one (and the first isn't far behind).

They look Photoshopped to me. The lower half of the bumpers on the second and the rear tyres under the body look iffy. And the centre of the front spoiler, plus the colour of it look wrong.

Any which way, it's not especially elegant.
