Tough decision... 996tt or x50, decision to make today!

Good luck! I've only managed to do about 100 miles in mine since I got it... now it's grubby so I'm going to polish the st out of it this weekend and take some pictures for here... then go out and get it grubby again!

With the recent good weather I've been gravitating back to the TVR a little bit and have driven that more than the 996... which is weird.

The 996T that was up for around £54-55K in JZM has now gone off their site - wonder if it was sold or if it was on SOR and the owner has decided to drive it?

Thanks. I'm hoping to pick up Saturday, otherwise they may have to store the thing for me for a few weeks, as the scheudle is a bit mental. I'm not much for car polishing - always hated washing the Griff when I had it - so I'll have to wait for another "dity Porsche" thread before posting pics,

Dunno. The 'word' is that decent 996tts might head up toward the £50k mark within the next year, so lower mileage stuff like that might be even stronger.

Granted we will see lift in values of 6T's which is positive as they are epic cars, but I always find it amusing when values are quoted like we all have some crystal ball to hand.
In relative terms the 996 Turbo is worth more than 50-60k now if you look at some of the crap advertised at circa 60k+ because its got IB bumpers on and is cooled via air and has a little tin worm as a passenger.

I have read recently whilst browsing the mags at a Motorways services (as you do) that there is going to be a lift on the 996 Turbo soon, but then I ask myself how do they know?

I think you're right on all counts to be honest and cars have raised £5k+ at the lower end in the last 12 months. If I sold my car for £30k it would be an absolute bargain given the looks and work that's been done.
I have missed out on recent vehicles sold albeit still made a few quid (which was never my intention but nice all the same)
I'm sure I'd be selling the GT2 at £60k+ now miles aside but hey ho life goes on. I did very well out of the G50 930 and had a little lift on the GT3/964 Turbo & 3.2c
I just don't get how cars can be valued so specifically and believe that some of the greedy specialists are guilty of setting market values.
If my car is worth £40k+ in a yrs time so what?
Its all relative like property. What do you do with your uplift buy another over-priced 911?

I don't 'do' concourse and I went into this with a view to getting a car that a.) I wanted/liked and b.) was suitable for use pretty much year round in UK weather, not as an investment, but I do think they still look value compared to either earlier cars or other Mezger-powered stuff. All IMHO.

No I agree with you mate.
I'm just intrigued to know who predicts values, certainly not the masses on PH.
The 6T is under-valued but I think the market is waking up to them now, and i'll hazed a guess that the values probably will go silly soon.
The same thing happened with 993 Turbo's (I nearly bought an average 993t example about 6 yrs ago for £35k from a dealer!)
In realistic terms and forget build numbers etc the 6T is a superior machine to the 993 Turbo.

Like you my car was bought to be used in all weathers and had added practicalities over a previous GT2/3 I'd owned (having a family)
My car stands me at nothing due to sales lifts on previous cars so its irrelevant whether the value stays the same or goes up, obviously the latter would be nice but it won't stop me using it.

Crimp, interesting in your buying choice/opinion with regard to GT3 - similar to my preference for the turbo, although in the space of time I first began mulling 'a 911' over, prices of GT3s have shifted out of comfortable reach for me, so the comparison is slightly moot.

My main waste of time and money is mountain biking, including a fair bit of downhill. I realised that, ironically, some of the times when I'd like to enjoy a sports car were not necessarily the typical sunlit days, but cold, crisp, possibly even frosty winter mornings, or even wet days - biking in the mud and st is fun, but if you've had a week of it and the weekend is still wet, you get a bit tired of it. There is also a worry about what I'd do with myself if/when age and or injury curtail mtb activity.

The GT2 or GT3 are epic in the right environment. "Dry".
I guess if you're an above average joe driver then you can hoon in all elements.
My experience of the GT2 in the wet was basically facing the wrong way with an arse like a pump bag top you had at Junior school

I must admit, I enjoyed the drive home more than I expected. I've been using a vantage for the last couple of weeks and the turbo felt much sportier in comparison - ironic really because I've never thought the turbo felt that sporty. It was lovely to have the power back too - I'd already acknowledged the vantage was slower than I expected (and much slower than my turbo) but I'd forgotten just how quick the turbo is.

It's still for sale, and there was a fair amount of interest as soon as I put the ad up. But I may not be very flexible on the price - I'm beginning to think I could live with 4 cars...

Having owned TVRs - the first a 4 litre Griffith at just 25 years old - I have a fairly high benchmark for 'fast'.

A while back, after my last (modified) Griff 500, a mate who'd sold his Griff 500 and bought an SLK 55 AMG came to visit and insisted I drive it, with the words "just floor it, it's not really that quick" - which summed it up. If I'd never owned something with that sort of power-to-weight, I'm sure I'd be happy with it, but perception of sportiness is everything.

I'd been very tempted by V8 Vantages, not least because of reliability, but in my heart I knew I'd likely, eventually, want something a bit more urgent. It's not so much the outright speed as the feel and delivery.

If its the Orient Red one IMO that car is too cheap that's why you've had loads of interest.
Bang the price up or keep it the values are only going one way mate and its a rare colour low mile car.

It is that one. I did think I was pricing it a touch low - especially since I've just spent £1200 getting a few bits sorted including front brakes. But figured I'd try for a relatively quick sale, although I'm not desperate to get rid of it by any means.

We'll see what happens - let's see if the enquiries turn out to be serious.

Lovely looking thing that, great colour I think I have only ever seen one that colour before but the interior wasn't the best of colours "White"!
I would suggest its one of those colours that looks better in the flesh no doubt
