In Europe, SICOM are offering €300 per old brake disc so a total €1200 value to be knocked off against value of a new set of a full kit of 4 discs, pads, cooling ducts, calipers etc.

For the UK this will be £1000 irrespective of how knackered the discs are.

Warranty is 12 months/12,000km whichever comes first, new full kit or refurbished.

However this does not include any competition/series racing.

Very interesting ...

What would be the cost of refurbishing a full set of Cayman PCCB's ?

Would it be better to buy new replacement discs and exchange the old ones ?

In terms of Price and Time Taken ?

Thanks ...

Apologies did not get the chance to answer your question.

Re: New vs refurbished.....it depends on your driving. If you are going to track it regularly then go for a new set. For standard driving with the odd track day thrown in then just go for the refurbishment.

Turn around time is around 4-6 weeks at present due to the backlog. We are hoping to cut this down to half within the next 24 months.

That looks like a price to change of around £3000 ... is it possible to buy new and then send you the old ones for credit once changed ?

Or, does the car need to be on axle stands whilst the exchange is done and you then return the new discs fitted to the original "bells" ?

(Sorry for the public discussion but I'm not on Facebook or Twitter ! smile )

If you pay first and up front for new ones can always buy the old ones later down the line for £1000 providing they are repairable and not totally shot. We can usually tell by looking at them visually.

A lead time of upto 6 weeks means your car will be off the road for a while if you are having them refurbished.

I await a swap out service, which would be great esp if you intend to buy off people for only £1k, a swapout seems very doable and keeps our cars on the road.

Indeed it is a fantastic service SICOM are offering.

Hopefully in the not too distant future SICOM will be operating out of the UK.

As well offering the ceramic brakes we have also got a range of the UK's top 150 brake discs (Porsche 996, 997, Boxster etc included)coming that will be painted like Pagid/Zimmerman and a range of pads to match. All will be matching OEM quality of above also.

Then that's what I will probably do.

They are quite driveable at the moment, the delamination is just starting --- how do the weights compare to the standard PCCB's ??

Here's a question for the experts.

So my GT2 isn't off the road for 6 weeks, can I run steel fronts (spare set of performance friction discs and pads I have) and leave the PCCB on the rear while the fronts are being refurbed?

If not, does anyone know a Porsche part number for 350mm discs and pads for the back of a 6GT2 ?

It's not ideal, but that's what I did it with mine back in 2006 until I established what replacement steels I was going to use on the rear .

You'll be wanting 997 Turbo steel 350mm rear discs. They fit perfectly smile

Excellent, thanks.

I don't think they're that expensive are they? I might buy a set anyway and send all 4 discs off.

Mine aren't too bad, but I just want it all 'as new'

I'm not sure how much a 'new' PCCB weighs but I've attached these pictures for reference. Both are 380mm in diameter

Sicom ceramic

Worn Porsche ceramic (I think mass loss is around 0.05kg of ceramic surface material)

vs steel disc (9.7kg)

And one more comparison

BMW E92 M3...SICOM ceramic vs OEM steel

Lovely stuff!

You guys should get a piece about this PCCB refurbishment service into the UK Porsche trade press...i'm sure it will be of interest to heaps of pccb owners.

E.g. I noticed in this month's GT Porsche magazine (Porsche Shop section) that WPPro/Surface Transformations have a piece highlighting their own solution in this area. Although they are not offering the refurbishment, which may mean Sicom have a unique offering in the market.

Ive been running steels up front and pccb rears on a 996 for about two years now and no issues. Its not too bigger deal due to the fronts doing more of the work.

Give JZM a call if your in doubt though

Thanks for the compliment and the great idea.

At the moment we are looking for a viable venue that can leapfrog us this idea. If not, we are happy to have a SICOM UK office and build on that as business progresses and then have an installation site down the line. This way we can work out the long term viability of the model. In fact, our German model has been exactly the same.

I was thinking Total 911 magazine?

Yes Total 911 is another title, plus there's also 911 & Porsche World. I subscribe to GT Porsche which is my personal preference. :-) You need to drop their editorial a note and see how these promotional news features work, it might cost less than a standard advert, and imho is of more value.

UK office headquarters hopefully to be open within the next few months.

You'll be able to buy from there as well as exchange or sell your old PCCBs there too.

We are buying old PCCBs for £1000.
