Would a 996/7 GT3 live with the 991 GT3 on track?
Discussion
It's clear the 991 is quicker at the traffic lights due to PDK and Launch Control, but on the track is there really anything in it?? Does the old Mezger GT3's keep on the bumper of the tech-laden 991GT3? I can't imagine - due to gearing, power-to-weight etc, that once moving the 996/7 would be far behind, if any?

Isn't the power-to-weighty greater for the 991 GT3?Schermerhorn said:
I imagine you would be losing miliseconds on each gearshift, reaching acceleration etc.
Through the corners the lighter 996/997 may claw back something. However I suspect unless you have a tyre advantage the newer car will walk away.
Wouldn't that be more than offset by the RWS etc?Through the corners the lighter 996/997 may claw back something. However I suspect unless you have a tyre advantage the newer car will walk away.

You're trying to compare a (non-standard) 996 RS in the dry, with a journalist driving a 991 GT3 in greasy conditions (not even wearing a helmet)...

Interesting, thanks. The video says 4 tenths of a second faster, but it is much closer to 3 tenths (0.32s)!I think this is the same guy I've seen before - his car is VERY special, and he has driven hundreds (thousands?) of laps at that circuit. No idea what experience the 'pro' driver had with the 991 GT3 or on that circuit.
Regardless, this is still very impressive though.

You forgot non-standard 996
Perhaps you are right (although other figures suggest not), but those two videos are so far from comparable it's not true.
how so not comparable on same track;Perhaps you are right (although other figures suggest not), but those two videos are so far from comparable it's not true.
991 has 70 more bhp and 30 lbs torque, also PDK-S and new Cup2 rubber.. semi-pro driver at the wheel. that is not a wet track !!
996 has standard 410 engine, 100kgs lighter than stock, stiffer suspension, two year old tyres & two persons onboard.
I regularly track with a mate who has a bone stock 996RS who is my equal on every track we go to, UK & Europe and he's old enough to be my dad

I said greasy, not wet - that's obvious from the video.991 has 70 more bhp and 30 lbs torque, also PDK-S and new Cup2 rubber.. semi-pro driver at the wheel. that is not a wet track !!

And the 996 is not standard - 100Kg is a significant weight saving.]
But that's still impressive, nonetheless.

I give most of the 100kg weight advantage back though as my financial consultant passenger & his wallet are pax And the 996 is not standard - 100Kg is a significant weight saving.]

I like 991 GT3's just as much as you trust me, I just love the Mezger models a tad more, both wonderful machines especially on track

AS ALWAYS (!!) I am not trying to 'defend' the 991, I'm just suggesting that there are a fair few inconsistencies between videos that make them difficult to compare and glean much useful information! In a real world 991 is a lot faster than 996/997 standard cars on track... Drove 100 laps on Spa last week with loads of 996/997 GT3/RS', none got anywhere close, diff was big. 991 can cruise chilled round on the bumper on any of them and disappear whenever you like.
Not saying one is better or worse, just experienced diff is substantial in real life. Off course you can mod any standard car to be loads quicker, but in standard trim, diff is substantial. Both days were dry and warm. In wet the electronics will help building a bigger diff I think.
