Of course it will be okay as a daily driver. This weekend only usage is a waste of car enjoyment Imo. If your not comfy in a GT variant then why buy it. My 991 GT3 is fine for a DD..

I use my 997 GT3 daily 50 mile roundtrip and it is a not a problem except for the short gears which a) urge you to go quickly and b) mean a god-awful range.

I live in London, so speed humps are an issue with no lift, but driving slowly over them isn't a deal breaker.

As silly as it sounds, our 991 GT3 makes me need a pee on most long journeys. If the GT4 has the same 'frequency', i'd have serious difficultly using one as a DD! laugh

I intend to use my GT4 as a daily driver - it will replace the V12 Vantage that I currently use a daily driver (all year round)!

The only potential downsides to the GT4 over the V12V I am expecting are :
  • Ground clearance issues
  • Lack of parking sensors
  • Lack of a quality audio
However with the possible exception of the first one, none of these are show stoppers albeit they may limit appeal compared to the all round competence of the V12V. Why wouldn't any petrolhead want to drive a car every day that puts a smile on their face?

All that said I currently thinking that I will just hang onto the V12V for 6mths overlap, just in case the GT4 doesn't tick the boxes in quite the same way and I have to roll back my decision.
In terms of a dd I think road /tyre noise will be an issue on motorways.

I'm in a new boxster s for the day as my 997.2 is in the OPC.... i can only imagine how bloody spectacular the GT4 is. I'm going to be looking at those over 991s when the time comes.

I chose loads of comfort & luxury options for my Cayman S, it was my first Porsche and a daily driver, I was slightly concerned at the time that even an S might be a bit much as a daily.

I like all the toys but far and away the best thing I like about it is the way it drives and the GT4 will be even better to drive so I'm pretty sure I'll be able to forgive it if it's not as quiet or comfy as the S.

I will miss the Burmester though. I've had a loaner Cayman with SPP and wasn't very impressed. I may have to revisit my youth and look to the aftermarket for a speaker upgrade and see how that goes.

As some have said here, my white metallic GT4 is to arrive here end of July 2016 and I have dropped the notion of keeping my porsches in the garage for special or weekend locations so my daily driver the last 2 years is a Cayman S PDK and it's the greatest daily driver with comfort, space and agility so I do have a serious problem ditching that one for the GT4 which I will not park in the garage (yes, I can afford multiple vehicles but No, I refuse to) So, my current conclusion is to go ahead and drive the GT4 daily and thankfully have the option of maintaining value and get rid of it if its a "daily grind" as I love and done SCCA racing and Skip Barber stuff but I want a perfect blend of drivability every day. If it doesn't work out then I would get the new 911 PDK or go back to another Cayman S PDK

One point which came out from the relatively lame sparring contest on the GT4 thread between two German chums in their Carrera GTS and GT4 was that the exhaust note at c125 db was only c3 db more than the GTS...
Which is twice as loud.

FWIW I don't own a GT4 and have only driven the race car, but given how badly my 2004 986 with M030 suspension copes with speed bumps and pot holes, I can't think a GT4 would be particularly pleasant.

GT4 glides over pot holes ,it's like some magic.

To low for a daily though, but I guess you up up the ride 10mm and fit super sports.

Awesome daily, awful on fuel! Best I have seen on a long run is high 20's my average over 1300 miles is 17 ish (may be up over 18 now but not much over).

It's for loads of space, I've the shopping in mine (a few times, family of 5). Fine around town and in traffic but clutch a bit heavy, suspension a little stiff and the roll cage can clonk but it's not bad. The front over hang can be an issue most speed bumps fine but I have grounded mine on a few steep inclines and had to reverse back, mostly underneath of the sacrificial splitter.

On a long run its fine too. Went 250 miles today and the wife who is the biggest moaner ever went in the car for the first time and loved it (kept sport off and exhaust off most of the way mind).

I have the 918 buckets and she got so comfy she fell asleep and she never falls asleep on a drive. They can be a bit awkward to get in and out of it.

If I had a 15-20 mile commute I would use it as a daily no doubt.

I use mine for everything.

It is a joy. Every time I jump in the car I love it.

Just finished my shift and drove home with the cruise on down the M40 listening to my fav tracks.

Fabulous headlights. Fabulous feeling cruising along the motorway and a nippy cross country jaunt at 03:30 with no-one else on the roads. Why wouldn't I use it for a daily?

I could very easily be used as every day --- even better than a GT3 --- but if you could have another car, why not keep it special ?

I'm using mine as a daily at the moment but only because I'm trying to get through the run in asap.

It's perfectly usable, and comfortable, much more so than other sports \ supercars.

However couple of things that would prevent me using it as a long term daily, it's very low and with LWB it's a bit of a task to get in and out of, I still fall into mine quite a bit :-) plus my clutch at the moment is very heavy, which becomes a bit of a pain in stop start traffic, I'm sure this will ease a bit in time though.

I don't use the GT4 if I have to drive somewhere where the low clearance could be an issue. I also leave it at home if it's pouring with rain or the temperature is likely to remain significantly below 7C - that's what my Cayenne is for.

Otherwise life's short so I enjoy every drive and use it as much as possible. It's a terrific DD but would benefit from front axle lift.

GT4 is easy to drive everyday, clutch is lighter than 997 GT3, gear change slicker and if it can be driven flat out on track in the wet on mpsc11 then what's to stop you, go for it OP

You have lift and its an automatic lol perfect daily really for a spots car fan.

GT4 is quite a hard core daily, no lift, so no car parks,, heavy clutch, very noisy, cup 2's. Hence I use my R as my daily.

People can use any car as a daily, but would one want too ?

You must own a totally different GT4 to mine!

I drive mine daily - never hit anything due to ground clearance and I frequent car parks daily including taking it to the supermarket for the weekly shop. I had initial concerns but these have proven unfounded.

My clutch is fine, neither heavy nor light - just perfect for daily use.

And my only gripe is that it is too quiet for a daily - as you have to hoon it before it sounds any good!

So all very personal and subjevtive really! wink

GT4 is perfectly fine as DD, ours get ragged round tracks, school runs, shopping, airport, can't see why not. We use all the cars, parking up and just looking at them is stupid, in that case buy some posters instead.

Awesome collection Mr Viking.

Sports seats rather the 918 seats, imo. makes it an even better daily.

Grass ;-)
50% of Pistonheads is interesting, 45% is people talking drivel and then every now and then someone posts and makes me laugh. Thank goodness for that 5%.
