I think the prospect of driving a 991 turbo on those roads would make me rub my hands together a good deal.

hehe This is just a Sunday afternoon cruise up and down Piuma, no need to try and find a place to wreck so the idea was to be smooth and stay in my lane...
Ya never know what or who could be around the next corner..
On public roads that is the attitude and the way to enjoy a sports car withotu messingup your day/life or anyone else's. Ignore the backseat 'experts'.
I'm just takin a Sunday drive and why push it since it's just a cruise... cool

The short windscreen does a perfect job keeping the cockpit out of the wind turbulence...

The 991 Turbo S has heated seats..... so nice compared to carbon fiber in the Rs211

Here is a little drive video from this afternoon with sound... I'm not too crazy about the off throttle exhaust burble popping. I wish Porsche didn't add that to the tuning to make it sound sporty, it's just annoying ...
Enjoy..

Thanks the car feels like I'm cheating every time I enter a tight corner. The all wheel steering is so nice when you have so much torque mid corner...

I guess I'll have to call myself the "Suburban Outlaw"...... vomit

Respect to you for being out there and doing it on what look to be great roads thumbup (rather than just posing like so many do) respect too for taking the time to make the vid and posting it smile Impressive video quality too clap

Buuut ......... It all looks just a bit too "easy" and lacking in any sense of engagement or for that matter any real input on your part. That's not a criticism of you, your driving, or your choice of car, it's just that viewing it leaves me feeling very cold, it could almost be a computer game we're watching.
I'm not doubting the car's speed, and yes, I'm sure you're right, the turbo would most likely spank all but the very best drivers in a 991 GT3 (but that too is a car I don't aspire to own)

Personally I'd rather see more vids of you working harder behind the wheel of your RS211, than watch the "computer game" like videos of you behind the wheel of the 991 Turbo smile

Thanks for posting anyhow, it's 12 degrees and raining here currently ..... frown

+1 fell asleep after 30 secs it was so boring. I think that stretch of road would be equally boring in a 991 GT3 having said that

Each to their own, but personally, this being the 21st century with all the downsides that come with it - increased litigation, an anti-speed lobby influencing government and law, other drivers with dashcams etc. etc. - road driving is not for high adrenaline kicks, all IMHO. It's neither wise nor responsible.

If I want high stakes, high adrenaline fun, I get on the downhill mountain bike and send a few big gap jumps.

1. It doesn't have to major on adrenaline kicks. It can be about the enjoyment of driving, and the engagement/ skills used to do so.

2. Surely that depends where you chose to drive. There's plenty of roads in N.Wales, Scotland and Europe that lend themselves to enjoying the process of driving.

It does indeed! I remember a very memorable trip in Switzerland a couple of years back during a week long trip across Europe.

I was in a GT3, 40 mins behind everyone else and the Grimsel pass in front of me and my hotel at the other end of it.

Epic epic epic afternoon!

Agreed - and this really depends on the car. I had faster road cars until a few years back, but recently, most of my driving has been much slower stuff; the most enjoyable was a 2014 Defender I had, which had soul and engagement and made any journey an event.

FWIW I've just caved and am in the process of buying something sportier once more. biggrin

Totally. In the same way that 20mph can be dangerous on the wrong road at the wrong time, using the car's grip and power can be done safely - it's all about assessing the risks.

Thanks, as I said the car feels so composed and smooth I feel like I'm cheating.. The thing in the twisties is to be as smooth as possible in order to be quick. I've tried going faster in-between corners but that then required harder braking into the next corner and then upsetting the car and driver... There is too much that can go wrong on a public road to drive recklessly..
The RS211 is much quicker but it requires a different mentality { I don't want to die ] The Turbo S tells me not to wreck a $200k car driving like a fool.

Smooth is good and the more I drive the Turbo S the better I feel as a driver. Now to see if any of that smoothness translates to the RS211 on the same road..

Have you ever taken either cars on track, if not could you please explain why?

I really enjoy both, but if I had your kind of roads close to hand I'd be on road more than track..... just!

The last time I took the Lotus to the track it was just an Exige body with 290 whp and it pulled better lap times than a GT3 with a pro driver.
I find the track boring and just a place wreck yourself over time.
With all the great driving roads around LA I'd rather not see the same corner every 2 minutes....It's much more fun to take a 150 mi. drive and see countless corners.... For me it's the drive not the competition...

Ah well, can't win 'em all biggrin

Where is that road btw ? I did the Pacific Coast Highway and the road through Yosemite National Park three years ago. I found the pace, how can I put this ? A little pedestrian........
I found a good road off the PCH, equal to any stretch of Tarmac found in the World Rally Championship, but I was in a rental Impala ( a proper POS).
