The last time I took the Lotus to the track it was just an Exige body with 290 whp and it pulled better lap times than a GT3 with a pro driver.

For me it's the drive not the competition...

Yeah that's it I'm old no doubt about it.
That road is in the Angeles National Forest [the hills just east of LA]..

Not a Porsche but hopefully I can crash the party just to say that route 2 through Angeles National Forest is fantastic. These pictures were taken on Friday (unfortunately I'm back in London sat in front of a computer screen now):

Amazing road, hardly any traffic on there (and the cars we caught up with tended to be very good in letting us pass them pretty quickly) and stunning scenery. I'd drive it again right now if I could!

Did Route 1 up to San Francisco and Mulholland Highway as well but they were less enjoyable - more traffic and for Mulholland more fallen rocks on the road to watch out for/drive around. I think the combination of route 2 and that car were the most fun I've ever had whilst driving. biggrin

That is a great road and I know it well, there are so many drivers roads in the area with little to no traffic on them. It still amazes me that is in LA.
You can drive for a hundred miles and not have another car in front of you the entire time...
I find myself in the car's sweet spot speed and just keep a smooth rhythm through the corners and realize later after looking at the speedo how fast my cruise speed really is. Videos do a poor job showing how rapidly the car is traveling unless the camera is mounted on the chin splitter....

Next time you are over let me know and I'll show ya the good stuff..

Great to see the car being used by its owner the way it was intended. I think we should sort out a trip over the pond and have 'the man' show us round these great roads......

Agreed re sweet spot and smooth rhythm - that's how I felt for much of route 2.

Will definitely take you up on that offer, hopefully before too long!

I take it you don't have broken centre lines over there? Apexing is perfectly acceptable and often safer if the vision ahead and your previous corner placement are done correctly.

Stay wide right on a left hander, slowing down to set the rear, clear road ahead, apex and accelerate on through as early as you like. Feels fantastic when you get it right.

That will get you a reckless driving ticket and a place on the urban outlaw hall of fame Facebook group...
There are no apexes in the real world. If you can't stay in your own lane at all times then you need a better car, better driving skills or both...

If I can keep my car in my lane at all times everyone can... If you can't then stay home because there are faster people on bikes and cars coming from the opposite direction....

The idea is to change the Porsche owners reputation from being the worst drivers in the canyons to at least that of the average Lotus owner....

I must say these canyon roads in America look far more entertaining than our very own Snake Pass which is 50mph limit coupled with police hiding in the trees with speed cameras.

Maybe because you own a sports car that you can drive quickly and enjoy the curves in the road with rather than crossing the line as if you are driving some pice of crap like some jack off aqualung..

That's the difference between drivers and posers...... Please stay home.

Sweetie, I doubt a little girl like you could stay with me through one of these canyon roads.....
If you think shuffle steering is appalling you are just an F in idiot...

I guess you should maybe give this guy lessons.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mrjlXs4yEp0

Oh yeah the reason you don't use the whole road is because it is unsafe but please post up a video showing me your skills on a canyon road at speed....

Yeah I for some reason can't see through the mountainside but I can see cars coming on the opposite side and cyclist as I come around the blind corner.

Surely the point with the Turbo S is that you DON'T need to change gear - you can let the car's torque do all the work - but then it's more 'cruising' than 'driving'.

You keep claiming something is 'reckless' (when it is blatantly not) without explaining why, simply resorting to pathetic insults.

It's also illegal to exceed the speed limit - do you not ever do that either?

Your arrogance is astounding. How dare anyone challenge the rubbish you spout?!
