Hope you don't come across someone walking/jogging/cycling or whatever in those roads, you'd be through the back of them before you had a chance to react judging from that first video!

I guess you missed the part that a hunt driving a " Porsche" hit me in the left rear and put me into a wall on the Highway while trying to ego pass me at 70mph...
Did you reclaim the repair costs from the other driver?

That's exactly why you keep it under control and in your own lane...

Maybe you should understand steering rack ratio and corner radius and what it takes to get around in the canyons..
Posting up a Lobe video on Pikes peak is a little dumb since it is not a tight canyon road and when he needs to he shuffle steers....

But at the point in the Loeb video, he is having to apply 270 degrees of steering lock for a tight corner. He HAS to shuffle.

Your video shows you shuffling to apply about 45 degrees of steering angle. In fact at no point in your video did I see more than about 100 degrees of lock.

You could have kept your hands on the steering wheel the entire video if you had so wished. (And despite what you say, that IS what most professional racing drivers would have done)

If that's how you feel comfortable then that's fine, and it's obviously your personal preference. But to say people other people don't understand steering ratios and corner radius is a bit silly.

On a final note, I wish I had some roads like that near where I lived!

hey, ten to two and quarter to three are so old hat. 27 minutes past 7 changing to 4 minutes past 11 is where it is at nowadays steering wise.

Last time I "shuffle steered" was during the 3 point turn on my driving test !

Having said that, Ronin has a point with apexing on roads, even if clear to do so. If you are going so fast you need to apex then you are going too fast on the road to be honest. If you are not going that fast but just enjoying the apexing then it does add some risk even if remote. You can still enjoy the drive just sticking to your side of the road.

Have I made both sides happy, or both sides sad ? Forum rage biggrin

You should get an MX5 like mine, it's got hydraulic steering, none of this electronic, condom steering your modern porkers have .. tongue out I'm surprised with that steering you can even stay on the road, ho ho.

I'm only going to mention the shuffling and agree, there is no need for it and it looks wrong too.

I did my Porsche driving tuition with Bernard Aubry and that's what he taught, and for over 20 years it has served me well.

Here's Walter...doing a fair bit of shuffling.

I wouldn't put any hard and fast rules on steering.

look i agree with your comments on keeping in your own lane mainly as its enjoyable but safe quick driving is to position car to see around the corner as soon as possible. i dont agree with your comment regards being in your own lane is safer to drive safely these days in uk and we havent got the god given roads you have in california we have st surfaced twisty b roads with lads on push bikes 2 abreast, farmer giles coming out of his field leaving half the field on the road, farm lane junctions etc etc. its a bloody nightmare. but by timing your run you can still drive safely and quickly.
30 yrs ago my brother a good skilled driver left very early morning to drive to the irish ferry.
knew the road he was driving like the back of his hand. went through a quick right hander and an old gentleman had stopped parked up to go for a piss. my brother swung out to avoid the parked car unfortunately coming the other direction was the milk tanker doing his early morning pick ups. brother nearly made the manouvre back into his own lane. last minute tanker clipped rear of my new capri 2.8 injection put the car and in the ditch ,no air bag he was unconcious covered in petrol. bloody lucky to be alive.
my point is when driving quick on country roads now in uk must be accountable for the unexpected. thats why ive stopped pushing it on high hedged tight bends. i,ve even come across people black berrying in the hedge rows.
talk about extreme sports . enjoyed your video must be even more enjoyable with a manual box and no driving aids

If you stick to your lane, you still use all of it, inside to out. Apexing is the same but allows you to use the positive camber from being on the "wrong" side of the road. If it's clear to do so obviously.

Up here in Scotia land we have many, many different flowing roads that you can see for a long way on mostly. If there's no double whites it's perfectly legal and as I said above, safer to apex and use the full road.

Speed doesn't come into it. All dynamics. Especially in a 911.

My name is Frank and I shuffle steer.....and yes every Porsche owner no matter what they drive is a better driver than I am...

These are my poor handling cars and without a doubt your car no matter what it is is better in the canyons......

Really ? I designed and built the Rs211 and the 991 Turbo S I bought....
And yet after 35 years of driving in the canyons my car control has not caused a single mishap.

I still haven't seen your skills behind the wheel....
