OP, the weekend's ticking away. Are you going??
Yes just getting stuff together now. Still undecided between Wales (Snowdonia or South Wales) or Yorkshire Dales!

Stick Wrexham in your nav for now and enjoy the motorway. Call the Groes Inn and try for a bed and dinner before you get too far. By morning you'll have a few suggestions here.

Bunch of us going up again tomorrow morning, never seen a speed camera or mobile plod at any point south of Builth Wells. 7am up and away.
Roads are outstanding with nothing on them until after 10am....then it can be challenging.

We've been doing this for 20 years +, and there are roads we are still only just discovering within 70 miles of Cardiff....you just need to know where to go....

Some great quiet roads in Wales even the famous triangle, blaenau festineog and others are stunning

Went down to Rye in the end and then up around the Kent coast to Broadstairs, as I want to do Wales trip properly and I think I left it too late to do it justice.

So now thinking of doing it this coming bank holiday weekend but then query whether traffic will be manic due to it being bank holiday! grrrr.

I live in North Wales and regularly go for a spin in the boxster and have fun and have no points on my license. There are hardly any fixed speed cameras and the mobile ones are very obvious, a lot of the twisty bits are not suitable for speed cameras so there's no worries there.

Only one thing I'd say if considering South Wales & the Beacons. There was a high profile crash with some teenagers a few months ago on the A470 around Storey Arms.

I was up there about 2 weeks ago in my 7 and came across 3 mobile camera units in usually unmonitored places, don't usually see one. It was the first sunny weekend. I suspect they are trying to make a point. Would suspect Mr Plod will be out & about over this weekend again. Along with herds of cyclists....

Try the B5105 from Ruthin to the A5.

Drove it a few years ago and it was superb.
No cameras, quiet (Friday afternoon) and well surfaced.

Most take the A494 and A5 which will be busy this weekend.

You will not be disappointed.

I cant remember the exact road, but if you follow the brown signs to the Elan Valley [ from the A470 ] up to the Dams, which are well worth a visit, then follow the back road to Aberystwyth, you will not be disappointed smile
