All this talk of car X being so much quicker than car Y on the road makes me laugh. On the road cross country speed is primarily determined by willingness to take (unnecessary and dangerous) risks and ignore speed limits. Obviously I don't mean if you have a Reliant Robin! But any reasonable sports car or hot hatch will do. I've driven in convoy with quite varied cars - just a few weeks back in Scotland I was following a 991 GT3,
had a Caterham and a Boxster Spider behind. We were going fairly quickly but all managed to stick together well. Only got strung out at times because of traffic and inability to overtake at the same time.

To get (vaguely ) back on subject, not really a "Road Test" , but some nice shots for those trying to decide if they are brave enough to spec purple (still prefer Lava, but, unfortunately it isn't something I have to lose sleep over cry )

A while back I drove a Nissan GTR and I was amazed at the car and what it could do. It was really good fun for a while but then I ran out of talent and the fun aspect crossed over to the scared aspect where I was turning into corners as ridiculous speeds and the car just stuck, gripped and went without anything being really fed back to me in the way or enjoyment. Amazement yet but enjoyment? No.

I personally don't have the talent of Chris Harris to enjoy the car like he can but others may have and I am sure they will have an amazing time with this car.

Surely a Nissan GTR is more comparable to a Turbo S, ie heavier and with 4 wheel drive ??

You're the one posting at midnight on Saturday. So easy hehe

I've got 3 Porsches with a fourth, the RS, inbound. More than I have Ferraris or Lamborghinis. So I'll stick around if its all the same to you sweetheart

Spoke with a friend last night that has driven the RS on both road and track, also driven my 991GT3. He says that whist the car RS is very fast on track, its as easy AND AS MUCH fun to drive on road as the GT3, just does every thing a little faster, PDK, steering, throttle, etc,..

One point I have not seen mentioned yet is the induction noise from the vents.....

As for the ring times, note that that 7.20 was done on a wet track, taking into account just what MPSCs are like on a wet track would expect to see at massive improvement on this....

She does look rapid David, especially through the twists. I also wouldn't be surprised in the least if she is putting out quite a bit more horsepower than Porsches quoted 500hp. 7.1 secs to 100mph is incredible for a na car with "only" 500hp. I'm running similar times with 4wd, turbo and 100kg more and circa 650 PS.

Definately. The 470-odd in the gt3 is conservative imo

The RS looks like it is immense, a game changer by the look of it on track. How many times did Harris end up saying 'wow' and 'delicious'?
Not sure why people seem so grumpy about Porsche making it so grippy and so fast, but I for one will not be complaining if I get the smiles that Harris did.

Bring it on.

Hi Im
Think its a lot to do with the PDK-S box, and they way it goes about things...My 991GT3 at a VM event did 124mph at the 1/4 marker, don't see how 462bhp can do this, also on track it can stay with a 991tts, until the p-zeros let go.....

Interested in your comment on the induction noise. As you know there is a problem with wind buffeting on the GT3 if you drive with the windows down. My question is whether there is an audible induction noise on the RS with the windows closed. Any idea?.... ( I assume the wind buffeting issue is still there on the RS, without any specific information).

Going back to the important stuff for a second, does this new RS thingy have a nice plush interior ? Would it be a match for say the cabin of a Bentley Mulsanne ? If not, then I can't help thinking you would simply choose the Bentley instead ???

'Wind the window down and the induction noise from the rear arch intake is awesome' - Top Gear, doesn't mention noise with windows closed though.

Of course road cars understeer from the factory purposely to make safer for the average owner, first thing with a new car is run it in and get it set up accuratley, because the factory no longer care about this.
In fact understeer can be a very useful characteristic for track cars as it helps to have something to push up against in high speed corners, and also forces the driver to consciously neutralise it when rotating into an apex.

In contrast I find the pointiness of modern supercars (and hot hatches!) deeply scary because it means having to trust the electronics to do the work...

There is a very long set of threads on this issue on Reenlist in the GT3 section. As you know, most tracks in North America require the windows be down for track days. There are various accessories available ( small deflectors at the base of the A pillar which mitigate the problem but they are ugly things). This was a broad enough problem that there are several people make the deflector kits.

Glad you are having no buffeting!

Do the windows need to be all the way down?! If so, one might as well take out the back window as well. Plenty of induction noise then!

Oh thanks , I had no idea they had to do this - why's that then ? Cheers smile
