Yep, an element of truth to that. Even back in the late 80s once your front engined/rear wheel car had more than 250 bhp it was already beginning to break traction if pressed on enthusiastically on the road. My E39 M5 from 2002 is technically too powerful for the unknowing boy racer if it did not have some granny aids.
Until recently the 911s managed to overcome rear grip by having the engine over the wheels, but I guess 420+ bhp is about the limit
At times I smile, they spent the best part of 40 years?, trying to get the back end to go round a corner, then someone decided to bring in RWS.......Until recently the 911s managed to overcome rear grip by having the engine over the wheels, but I guess 420+ bhp is about the limit
looking forward to the EVO vid....
But in which direction is the transformation? The perspective on this is really at the heart of the discussions around the new car. Though in the modern reductive way, debate is mostly framed as a binary position yelling about PDK.
We should be able to do better in terms of conversation.
Having seen several 991 GT3's on track now, what struck me was the mid corner, self effected, yaw changes the car now clearly presents. The only other car I have seen make such pronounced changes in the same circumstances is the GTR. (note for the sensitive. this is an observation, not a disparaging snipe. there is no opinion contained within that)
These changes are simply the various systems (including RWS and torque vectoring) working away to keep things within predefined parameters. In one sense it is no big deal, but as you mention the word "transformation" it felt interesting to post since unquestionably one has very much taken place. The GT3 has moved firmly into the present after years or standing against the rushing waters.

The 911 has always been fabulous through the corners. It's not the car's fault people can't be bothered to learn it.

after 35 years in 911s, I would agree with that, but times change, more sales, more bhp, much more,, ie the tech stuff is required, doesn't mean its not as much fun to drive though....The 911 has always been fabulous through the corners. again watch the track vid, no one gets to 8+k revs
only time to see max revs is when they do it for the camera to make a point, on road tests and tracks bar a straight, the cars never manage to get up that rev range !!
must be very fustrating
With most high performance cars, you will struggle to use all the revs all the time, its what makes the moments (when you can use all the revs) all the more special and memorable.only time to see max revs is when they do it for the camera to make a point, on road tests and tracks bar a straight, the cars never manage to get up that rev range !!

The GT4 will be the same.
Having said that, I spent a weekend in Wales not long ago and I managed to use the car to its full potential in all gears
