Thoughts turn to the 6RS with no TC etc.........
996RS Owner that I know, with all the right suspension upgrades, drove a 991GT3, brought the car......"not even in the same conversation"

says more than I ever can......each to his own though.....

Watched the video last night, then watched it again with Molly. What a fantastic car! Waiting for all the knockers to come on now!! Well done to EVO for producing the most professional version. Think I might just watch it again.

It's a view, like anyone else's view. You'll still get the knockers because to a large extent whether someone likes a car or not is subjective, not objective.

It's no doubt a "great" car, but no single view is ever definitive.

There was still some subjective criticism of the gear change, so the manual monkey is still on its back.

Yes , each to their own and I agree there is something super special about a manual - Last weekend I spent loads of time in my 2.7 RS (ish - proper 2.7 MFI engine Iin a perfect '83 backdate) and I have to say that car is just great fun - I enjoy driving it just as much as the GT3 (991) - it's immense - to me it and the GT3 are the best of both super brilliant worlds - different , but perfect IMHO smile

Hi R,

Whilst I agree that a stick is in some ways more rewarding, for me its the integration of all the system's working as one that make the GT3 such a great car.

Interesting comments at 4.30 onwards about the elec steering...

" feels just like an hydraulic system."

Yes it's good but no where does he say it's better than a 4.0 rs in steering "feel". Take the damn bet regarding the gt3 if you've got the balls , don't snipe at me I'll blow you into the weeds smile

Lets be honest the manual monkey is always going to hang around so long as men produce something called testosterone! It is such a macho image that you guys have to have a stick in one hand. Yes - we all love an old-fashioned manual but really, IMVHO, you cannot change gear as quickly and efficiently as you can using the paddles of the most excellent PDK system in the GT3 (& obviously the RS is hardly going to be a lesser creature). FFS - just take a look at the bloke from Porsche setting the lap record at Bilster Berg - he is fighting the thing all the way round, gripping that dinky new steering wheel with grim determination and constantly shifting gear - to achieve the same one handed would be hard work and, I would risk saying unlikely to produce the same result!

Whilst out and about earlier I let our GT3 loose on some nice quiet roads and trust me, I too hung on to that steering wheel with grim determination. ........but then I would wouldn't I 'cos I'm a girl so probably not able to handle a real man's car with a proper manual gearbox

I would wholeheartedly agree.

WANT.

But the GT4 is half the price for track work, and the MP412c more exclusive and arguably better on the road.

Very interesting times smile

Morning - yep best so far by a mile - loved watching the lap - usually nothing more boring - but that was epic ! Also the journalist was just 100% genuinely as pleased as punch to be driving it - it all felt very real and not as forced as the CH review - I am VERY excited now ! Word on the street is PTS is up for grabs too - ummmmmmmm ?????
Am amazed people take journalist reviews quite so seriously. Catchpole's review really turned your opinion of the car which was not so positive prior due to the Harris one......?

I have a 73 Elan sprint, not driven for a while, took it for blast last week, I can see that despite above there is something rewarding about a stick shift.......some times it not all about the speed..

The thing is the RS imv is all about evolution, if they brought out a car with stick shift, then it would not have RWS, along with the other tech bits....instead of being the bench mark it would just be left behind.....

like I said above, taking in to account the bhp , torque, these cars now have, think without the "aids", there would be a few offs..

took 918 for a good run at 6.30 this morning, the road was still a bit damp..pleased I left the traction on......

Absolutely. I agree with your view of Catchpole, and, more importantly, your point about customer views.

In that regard, which PHer is getting the first car?...would love to read some real world views over the summer, as I have to wait till September 2 before pickup. That's the bad news for me. The good news is that I have three weeks of pretty much non stop driving in Germany and Austria after that....

My RHD is Sep build, CS pack....I would expect to see LHDs before then though.

I think this is a very fair point to make - I can't quite explain why , other than it was the first review I've seen where the journalist genuinely looked blown away by the car and also , as I don't think I'll get loads of free time to use mine on the track , the fact that a lot of the review was about it being a really involving road car really appealed to me ; I guess I was really worried that I'd loose that day to day thrill that I get when currently driving my GT3 - it's just so useable , I love it . Also I'm just really fickle and weak smile

With all due respect, that's complete hogwash. Speaking for myself at least, as i don't have a race to win when out for a drive or even when on a trackday, the faster and more efficient pdk gearchange isn't a major requirement and if I were a racing driver, i note most racecars with automated boxes are running single clutch boxes which are lighter.....

For at least some people, wanting to drive a manual has got bugger all with some perceived macho/testosterone driven thing but quite simply because to them driving a car with a manual box properly is more er.. fun. It really is as simple as that.
