My 997t gen 1 is due for a major service, since the last major service it have covered 3000 miles
Would you have the plugs changed or not?
Spoke to number of independent specialists who say there is no need to throw away good plugs
Your thoughts please

For my 996 turbo, I simply alternated minor / major services each year regardless of mileage. I think mine only managed around 5k-6k between the last couple of majors.

yes, it's a 2 year major service and NEEDS plugs, it's called preventative maintenance and IS on the 2 year required list of jobs on a major service.

Plugs can seize in the block.

ALso when selling it's one thing I would check as I would think, what else has the seller NOT been doing !

No I personally I would not bother with only 3000 miles since last change. GT4 is right though I've heard once before of plugs seizing on a 997t but I'm pretty sure you could run for another few years without any ill effects.

I have known spark plugs to drop the core...... Personally I wouldn't leave them beyond the 4 year point.....

Basically I agree with what Porsche say, if you cant afford 6 spark plugs then you better sell the car

Its not about affording 6 spark plugs
I approached several Porsche independent garages for a quote on a major service (to compare prices) told them the car had covered less than 3000 miles from the last major service
All three garages i approached came back saying "no need to change spark plugs" (the technicians who advised me are ex OPC technicians)
Just wanted other owners views

I've had the car 11 months and done around 1000 miles
Taking the car to OPC Manchester for service( car is under warranty and they will see if any warranty work is required whilst being serviced)

Oh my goodness - you should add to the cost of ownership to pay someone to take your car for a drive once a month! Please contact me for competitive rates...!

I work most days and long hours, the spare time i have is spent with my loved ones after which i try and enjoy my toys
I have a Scud,Diablo SV,964 Carrera 2,964 3.3t and 997t
Between them all i manage 4000 miles, not bad for someone who has very little time to indulge in toys :-)
