New 911 GT car in pipeline

As much as I would like it to happen, it's an Autocar report so its all probably bks Cant help but feel if they wanted to make a 'back to basics' car championing mechanical interaction and involvement with an exploitable chassis over an electronically assisted quick-as-possible machine then they would be better off making a pared-back, stripped-down Cayman rather than a 911.

If it's true, I suspect a few PHers here will have just had a "moment" I wonder how they'd go about it in theory?
Base 991 Carrera
6/7 speed manual 'box with a shorter final drive
Some GT3 suspensiony bits with X73 type sports suspension
Some weight saving a la rear seats delete and other minor bits
PTV/mechanical diff
Lightweight 19" wheels
Sports exhaust
Bucket seats
Job jobbed? I'd go for it if it was pitched at £80K or so

GT name being sullied, what with the GT4 having hand me down parts and non motorsport engine to this.
How long will be until we see GTXX Black Ed. and so on
Is that in the same way the 991 GT3 has a non motorsport engine? And I hate to tell you, a lot of the parts which are hand me down on the GT4 were handed down to the GT3 from the cup car.How long will be until we see GTXX Black Ed. and so on

Sounds good. Maybe a 3.4 or 3.6 version of the GT3 engine (400-420hp), 18" wheels on non-Cup tyres, lighter flywheel; GT3 steering and brake pedal feel.I wonder how they'd go about it in theory?

Very interested in this. Less race-car, more driver's car. GT4 was a step in the right direction but still too competent to feel it "move around" on the road.
Pricing will be crucial.
In theory there is no reason why a stripped, back-to-basics 991 should sell for more than a standard 991 C2 but let's face it, £80k is probably more realistic.
edit: The more I think about it the more excited I get. Narrowbody, maximum weight reductions, no gaudy aero with huge splitters and wings, just a really focused car for the road with a N/A engine and manual gear box.
Sounds like Walter Röhrl's dream, indubitably enabled by the sale success of the Cayman GT4.

Walter does not look terribly excited in the recent 991 RS in car / on track videos...Pricing will be crucial.
