I think he'll do a good job.

Of course he won't be Clarkson, entertaining or not, his buffoonery was not to all tastes.

I found myself just switching-off ...

I mean, how many caravans does a person have to wreck to prove that it isn't clever ?

Good luck getting Jay Leno, he could probably buy the BBC let alone Top Gear.

And Jay Kay ..... If you think Evans is annoying he takes it up to 11.
I have to take issue with that statement - having met Jay Kay when I was in Bosnia (Sarajevo concert 2005), we (myself and about 15 other squaddies) were very fortunate to get invited to his after party, he could have had his choice in company, women, hangers on etc, but he chose to spend his time with us.

He was massively accomodating, very friendly and genuinely enjoyed being 'one of the lads' (for a night at least)...

How he comes across in the public eye is a different matter, and I'd hasten to add most people are very different when the camera is on them!

Just saying... smile

The fker paints Ferrari's white......so they look nice together....how vulgar.
The equivalent of shabby chic'ing a Thomas Chippendale Cabinet so it matches the carpet.

Opening credits to a live 'rock' band with nausea-inducing boom-mounted zooming camera shots and prompted whooping from a carefully selected sycophantic audience....?
Not for me, ta.

Wake up and smell the coffee guys....the BBC are trying to suppress anything reflecting enthusiasm of motoring/petrolheadery by crashing the smoking aircraft of TG into the nearest mountainside of puerility.....

Will certainly sort the men from the boys, this one.

He hates Porsche, you know. Thinks they're boring. But, I'm all for him taking on TG. Might just watch it again.

Not offended just astounded that something so trivial as a TV presenter job can arouse such vitriol.
Try adding a little tonic or water... wink

Not met him personally (apart from once when he was busking at Ealing tube station many moons ago, could be wrong though) but going on TV appearances and other well publicised incidents he comes across as an arrogant st who has made a lot of money but doesn't respect others.

I take your point but a pr appearance in a war zone is hardly somewhere that he would be likely to show his true self. Could be wrong though and happy to be shown otherwise.

He does have a love for and great taste in cars so he can't be all bad.

It's a TV show so no strong views, I've not even seen the new version yet! However, some weeks ago Evans said he didn't want the job and wouldn't take it. Humm... laugh

But that is the key. Someone who could do something useful with their life, being fortunate to be in a position of influence, instead pisses it away.

He doesn't even polarise opinion - everyone thinks he's a tt; the only difference is between those who think he could make a half-decent job of presenting a pointless TV show, and those who think he will not.

I (we) was hugely fortunate to spend several hours getting pissed with him and his band - to the point where I tried opening a sliding door by pulling on it! party

He was funny and a good host - even shared a Heidi Klum story - the only thing that was taboo was Denise Van Outen as I believe it was still a raw subject...

It's amazing how once cameras aren't in your face, you're a different person!

Anyway, regardless, he does have great taste for cars!

But he wouldn't give any of us a hat! biglaugh

I'll watch it and keep an open mind until then. I don't think we should assume that the 3-presenter-plus-Stig format will stay either. There's lots of other things they could do - a guest celeb petrolhead doing a review/test/presentation each week for example (guest format worked well on Have I Got News For You and Buzzcocks).

I certainly hope they take the opportunity to revamp and refresh it as it was certainly getting rather tired, the last series particularly (especially the first episode with the ambulances project that should have been edited to half the time of tomfoolery - could have instead done a few minutes of serious coverage of what ambulance crews and their vehicles get up to Rather than just more footage of them just bashing them about).

LOL - Is this Jeremy, Chris or Jay? Actually a great description of all three!

Chris will be good for Top Gear provided they don't try to copy what it was before. Re-invented with new team I am looking forward to it returning. Personally I would like to see Guy Martin and either Jason Plato or long shot Chris Harris but Plato is more polished presenter.

Yes!

Get Chris Harris on, just tell him not to grab his chin before making an important point.

The word 'profound' should also be banned from any Top Gear presenter ;-)

My line up - Chris Evans (can't do anything about that) + Chris Harris + somebody female (Jodie/Vickie/Sebine)
