Agreed

Evans for the main presenting and messing about, Harris for the decent reviews, then you need another Chris to complete the line-up... Is Akabusi busy these days?

A lot of people missing the point here. TG is at heart a British show beamed around the world,
and there are few charachters in the british media spotlight so obviously GB than CE. He is
a British Institution in his own right and has rightly earned what he has. Also, he is a
considerate thoughtful selfless individual and all this can be easily gleaned by simply watching
him and how he behaves. Now I liked JC too, however study what CE will now do, he will make that
show his, and he will have you in goosebumps with his narrative and nods to the past, just see if
he does not.

I dont like his hair, yes he looks like a geek, when I was a teenager I hated him, and funnliy
enoough my kids now dont like him either, but he grows on you as is a genuine person with talent.
A few peopleneed to get a heavy grip on here......

Please don't water Chris Harris down into becoming an 'entertainment' presenter, he's a car journalist, and a damn fine one at that. Put him in this kind of job role and he'll no longer be able to do what he does best, and that would be a crying shame. As for Chris Evans, perfectly fine with this move, but is clear what direction BBC are heading with Top Gear, and that remains down the line of presenters just c0cking about with a few cars thrown in now and then, which is a shame!

Idris Elba would have been a better choice...no public baggage, has a natural masculinity which fits with the subject matter, has screen presence, broadcasting skills & would appeal to a broader demographic of ethnicities.

What about Harry Metcalf? I like his youtube vids, great choice in cars and familiar with the journo thing.

Would have liked to have seen Tiff and Vicki back on the show (but most are probably too young to remember that).

Personally I think Top Gear needed a change, Chris Evans is a bit of t*t but I'm going to give him a fair chance. To all of those who say he's a true petrolhead though, who takes a one of a kind Ferrari which is priceless and spray paints it white because he likes the colour? There is no other word it's sacrilege. When you are dealing with cars this rare/one of a kind a true petrolhead would realise the responsibility of owning it, you are holding on to history. You don't put your own colour tastes first and paint the fecking thing white to match your other cars

Has anyone seen Harris in a normal car? I only ever see him in high end sports things. I wonder if he knows what a normal car is?
Tiff is fun but he's been there. Forget Jodie Kidd, YAWN!

I can't help thinking it's all going to come crashing down now the original trio have gone.
I may be signing up to Netflix soon...

That fact that he splits opinion and elicits such passionate debate is proof that he is the right person for the job.

Yes!

Get Chris Harris on, just tell him not to grab his chin before making an important point.

The word 'profound' should also be banned from any Top Gear presenter ;-)

My line up - Chris Evans (can't do anything about that) + Chris Harris + somebody female (Jodie/Vickie/Sebine)
I agree with the males in your line up - but what do you think about Vicky Butler on the female list with a chance too?

But it isn't a "high end sports" car either is it!!! He's reviewed plenty of lesser cars, albeit most of these are performance hatches etc, but that is fine, that is his niche and there are plenty of reviewers for your typical cars.

Whilst I did question this myself, ultimately they are his cars and the paint work can always be returned to the original colour (and lets face it, most classics require modern touch up anyway). How many other investors of high value cars like him drive them regularly as he does, including letting winners of charity auctions drive them across the UK and Europe, piling on the miles. Give the guy a chance.

Famous people do not need to follow conventional sheep like patterns
to feel comfortable or retain a value, they set trends......

And if he were to sell it tomorrow he would get a premium for it purely
because he owns it and history will tell he painted it White, come on people..

He's been on The One Show, he came across really well about it!

Oh, and it sounds like he's going to produce it as well? So he will be able to smack himself in the mouth then! smile

Ok. I know I'm in the minority for the following two reasons.

Firstly I think TG and the presenters (JC) included was really , really tired - I gave up on the last series half way through and as such I think a change is as good as a rest.

Secondly , if you disagree with the above (which is fine by me) and you accept that JC has gone - then the BBC either stop the show or replace him - so if you accept this position , but are unhappy with the choice of CE then this is fine too - but only if you can put forward a viable alternative - I haven't heard any names that would be better on this thread .

My view FWIW is CE is a huge personality with a passion for cars and IMHO he will be brilliant to shake up what was becoming a really tired format. Now I may be wrong about this , however , I am not willing to right him off until he's had time to prove this either way.

So come on , let's get behind him , as I for one would prefer TG to remain on our screens . You never know , if we're lucky , they may even start talking about cars again !

smile

P.S Chris , if you're reading this and need me to come on the show - it's not a problem , happy to help woohoo
