Drive an old 80bhp mini hard and you get that kick. Its not about numbers!
My stage one-ed 40 year old mini 850 (~38 rampant bhp) can be driven on its door handles and still struggles to break any speed limit from 30mph onwards.....hilarious, it's like driving the world's angriest mouse biggrin

You illustrate my point beautifully.

I have the DFI 3.6 vanilla version with PSE and active suspension so main difference from the 'S' is 40 bhp and slightly smaller brakes. It's plenty fast enough for me on the road and a bit cheaper to run. Probably as quick as the Gen I 'S' Unless you are tracking it or driving flat out all the time I don't think you will miss not having an 'S'. Would recommend the PSE which does make it sound better. If you go for PDK make sure you get the sports chrono as well.

+1 regarding sports chrono with the PDK box; when you press the sport/plus button, the car's performance lights up.

The thing is theres so much psychology at play with speed.

I drove a 991GTS and it was fast, of course it was. But, it didnt shock me or make me swear. It was just so easy and without drama. Maybe thats it?

I was fairly disappointed to be honest, I was expecting that 'jesus I gotta myself one of these!' moments, but no.

Its not about outright speed (however you want to measure that), its the feeling of speed and maybe how close you are to it? Its that plugged in danger element that is difficult to measure.

Yeah I agree, the 991 GTS is a very efficient weapon which shields you from the actual speed. Very nice to drive though I thought.

Depends how you drive it. I use PDK in "manual" mode pretty much all the time and find that sports chrono makes no difference at all except for making full throttle upshifts pointlessly harsh. In auto mode it just revs the nuts off it. I prefer the regular sport mode if I do use auto.

So the bottom line was I preferred the S and have just put a deposit down on a 997.2 C4S from RPM. I can't wait to get back into a Porsche again! Its going to be a long week waiting . . .
