This is more about the psychology of this rather than this actual situation: I go to a lot of sports and music events; by careful and timely planning I have never paid over the face value of a ticket.

Of late I have started to meet more and more people who seem keen to pay ridiculous amounts and then tell you about it; they think they're impressing me - I think they're idiots.

Similarly, while my late father was a member of a very well known golf club, they were plagued with people who would arrive by helicopter, produce golf bags filled with thousands of pounds worth of gear, buy a ton of stuff with club logos on it and then fail to break 150 on the course. All so they could boast about where they'd played and how much they'd paid to do so.

How many of these over the odds buyers could drive a 2.7 Cayman to its full potential, never mind a GT3RS?

I don't see any 991 GT3 RS for sale anywhere. I know the trade is firm bids at 85k over list today. All the Porsche specialists. 5 footballers 7 business owners all firm bids. Looking for cars. An RS is simply a fantastic car and a future classic you must realise there are people earning enough cash in a week lot pay 250k for such a car. Normal rules don't apply. I am a firm bid at 80k over for an ultramarine spec. Please let me know where the firm offer is. Cash buyer. 918 owner.

I have no idea if there is anything that would differentiate the skills of the list-price buyers and the higher price buyers. However, the point is fair.

There is going to be a wide range of skills in my experience. Personally, there is no way I will be able to drive the 991RS to its full potential. I can only drive to my full potential as a driver which is moderately competent as a track day enthusiast. However, knowing my own limits, it is comforting to know that I am not going to hit the edge of the car's competence. Yet, I have seen some amazingly good drivers who have this talent.

I once had the experience of a very well-known racing driver who had tried my 997.1RS at the RIng. He told me that I should never try to find its limits given my level of competitiveness and about 7/10th would be enough. He was able to go right to the edge of the car's capabilites but told me it was likely to bite me very badly if I tried likewise.

However, it seems to me that this does not make people like me posers because I do not find the limits of the cars I drive. There is real pleasure in running the car as hard as I feel comfortable and the feedback I get is still a huge thrill for me.

I love this forum. Real Porsche experts and fascinating detail but spoilt by a few idiots who think they are experts on everything. You are not. I am not Apollo 1 and don't know anything about him. But great detective work based on punctuation?? Wtf? I regrettably did not order a RS as I was busy as feck working in Russia at the time , had just paid for a 918 W pack and my OPC ABERDEEN never offered. I have test driven car and want one now so very simple. I am prepared to pay up for an ultraviolet one. And I don't understand why if somebody wants to spend their own hard learned money on Porsches at a premium cos you can't buy them any other way. You have to compare them to plonkers. A GT 4 clubsport is bid 15 over list right now. Chump change to someone. But a fortune to others. Deal with it. Some of you sound so bitter. Less time in chat room forums more time working and maybe a premium would be less offensive. Porsche driving peasants what next?

Harsh but very true.
Fortunately there are exceptions like this man but most of the GT3 RS cars will spend their time in a dehumidified garage under a high thread count cotton cover.

What a load of bks - do OPC not have email lol? Go to garage put a can of Heinz baked beans on the bonnet of your wonderful 918 and post a pic Mr Abromovich. Don't tell me.... You don't have any baked beans because you do not eat peasant food?

You're a clowns pocket....

I'd not commented on the willy/wad waving until now but the above comment illustrates that money obviously doesn't buy manners. What an amazingly arrogant comment.

Some of us, myself included, have worked hard in our own careers, and treated ourselves to an example of the marque at a price point that probably doesn't even exist on your radar. I've bought a car that I've wanted to own for 15 years, not a few months. I've laid underneath the thing removing bits of knuckle as I change suspension items that suddenly improve the driving experience next time I get in it. Which is pretty much daily. I wash it myself, because I don't trust a valet place to do it properly. I've gradually ticked off a list of jobs that needed doing when I bought it and it looks great. I didn't write an LOI or stump up a massive premium, I drove hundreds of miles looking at many cars until I found the right one. The car is booked in, today, for an oil change, even if technically it doesn't need one according to Porsche. And I look back at the car and smile every time I lock it and still sit there amazed that such a great driving experience is available for so LITTLE money.

Maybe, just maybe, some peasants are more of a true enthusiast than certain members of the chequebook brigade.

Oh yes, we have some self appointed 'experts' on here.

From the early bailers who are now desperate for prices to fall to both satiate their schadenfreude and reduce the gnawing regret that festers continually, to those with thousands of posts who sit in their underpants at 3am self flagellating, twisted at the thought that others may be in the fortunate position to have a 918 or some other exotica

It seems to be their life, an all consuming faceless portal, through which they can post the entire contents of their vacuous lives, in the belief that somebody may actually care what they think.

There remains, however, some great information on the forum, posted by some truly well informed individuals. Let's hope that continues at least.

Smart Suzy not so smart, Apolo1! You are so transparent it is laughable, what your 3rd post and attempting to ramp prices already?

It's not a surprise to many on here as you are about to get delivery of your first of MANY 991RS.

BTW, why don't you tell us exactly how many you have on order? And please enlighten everyone here of your connection to Porsche with respect to RWS.

You can spend your money in any way you wish - just let me be clear that I am in no way bitter about people who earn more than I do.

Phrases like 'chump change' and 'Porsche driving peasants' do more to illustrate the attitude I was describing in my earlier post than I was able to do.

Let me also be clear on this - you can live in a platinum covered penthouse, have all the latest must-haves in terms of vintage wine, watches, cars, hi-fi, etc, all bought at a premium, 'cos' you can afford it, so long as you don't boast about it, either verbally or on-line. Once you do, I will think you're an idiot. Manners maketh man, not money.

Mods, is there a need for this thread, especially with the infighting and the verbal assaults. So boring and unnecessary. Close it and let us big boys read about the 991RS on the other 991 GT3 RS thread. We welcome all there who don't take it off topic with verbal assaults.

Potentially great news for 991 GT3 RS owners (especially RSVP911 who had a sharkwerks fitted to his 991 GT3)......

Had a good look under the RS at Silverstone on Sunday and I'm 99% sure that the excellent Sharkwerks 991 GT3 rear silencer bypass will fit to the RS so owners have the option to hear more of the great noise at much lower RPM as opposed to just when you're driving it like you've stolen it!

Richard will agree it transforms the driving experience and enjoyment of the GT3 so no reason it won't do the same on the RS.

Here's some pics of the car from Sunday
