This topic has kind of been covered but havent found the answers I'm looking for - I want to know if I can simply replace the speakers under the grills (dash and rear) - dont want to spend mega bucks on some crazy ICE set up, jst something that sounds better than std - what size are they, can I do it myself, do I need to get somewhere to do it and any recommendations (nr canary wharf)
Cheers!

See the advert for Morel speakers in Posrche Post. they're not cheap mind you. i am just about to upgrade the front speakers in my GT3. If you like, i'll update you as to my progress. I have a mate who owns an audio business and the morels are 450 a set!!! and I'm not paying that.

I'd like to improve the ice in my car too. You would think that there was a quick (fix) upgrade for the 996 as the standard system is pants.
Do you have to change the Becker head unit or would an amp & new speakers be the best option ?

Suggestions please.

I replaced my 996 C4S speakers with MB Quart components for a big improvement. I replaced the bass units in the doors with some Infinity 13cm I had from a previous install.

Sizes: 10cm in the front and rear, watch out for the mounting depth on the fronts that's the big issue.

Left the headunit as I've got a MOST equipped C4S.

I have had a whole new system put in my 996, including the speakers in the doors, which required a template to be made from plywood to fit new JL Audio speakers in. What speakers you can fir depends if you have the Hi-Fi pack, with the inserts in the doors and the wiring in place.

The whole Porsche system, even with the Hi-Fi Pack is pretty weak. I believe the amps are made by Nokia, who are well known for thier hi-fi credentials!

I changed mine for Focal components:

www.focal-america.com

165 KP for the fronts
130 CV for the rears

Quite a lot of dicking around to get them to fit, but worth it in the end. A bit lacking in bass, but I guess you can put a sub in somewhere if bass is your thing.
