Just wanted to know what fuel you used for your Porsche's I've tried normal unleaded, BP Ultimate (97Ron) and Shell Optimax (98Ron) and to be totally honest I don't see much difference between any of these...so is it worth the extra for Optimax?

I always use super, and Optimax where possible.

I feel the car is smoother with Optimax, though it is hard to compare over time as differences (especially on turbo cars) can be caused by ambient temp, etc.

Again I always use super and Optimax where possible.
The 996 handbook tells you to use 98RON and if you use 95RON then the engine management will adapt and retard your engine timing slightly to compensate.
You should also see better mpg from 98RON.

I look at it as 7% price difference, 10% improvement.

Optimax blended with either 110 (or above) leaded, or 106 unleaded, depending on the car - mixed to give approx 100 RON.

I have used Optimax on all the cars I have had, I find it is good stuff and the extra MPG it offers covers the extra few pence per litre.

I try to use optimax, but I'm not sure it'll do anything for my 944 Lux - does anyone know if it has knock sensors to advance the timing?

I tried Optimax in my 964 and it didn't seem to like it, seemed to run quieter and just didn't seem as happy so I switched back to normal non-supermarket unleaded.

OK - buy high octane fuel from supplier, mix it in drums or filling cans with Shell Optimax to get ~ 100 RON, put in car, enjoy. Do you want supplier details?

Ok...I don't undertand why you would do this...and suspect you pulling my leg...but hey I'm new to this game!

Mixing 76 Racing cool blue 106 with Optimax is undoubtedly nice, but @ £4 per litre for 106, it's not really ideal for day to day use.
Especially considering it's just about a 50/50 mix to get 100RON. Thats £2.45 a litre, ouch!
Unless of course you've got money to burn (Excuse the pun )

Nice for trackdays though

Everything is relative, as Albert would say. Yes I do the mixing as described, no it's not every tankful but more often than not.

Buying high performance prestige cars is itself a financially questionable activity, putting a bit of rocket fuel in the tank now and then isn't much different. You could say the same for the liquid gold we pour down the eco-waste-management-system every few thousand miles (Mobil 1) so with that in place is the engine protection factor any less significant on the fuel side...

Optimax gives good engine protection - additives and MON - while the cool blue gives that leeeetle beeet of va va voom on the RON. With a turbocharged car and knock sensors there are real gains to be had, just weigh up the cost-benefit and your priorities. If you think it's money wasted, nobody's forcing you to go blending, but then again why buy a Porsche at all when a deposit on a house - or the entire house - plus a Fiesta diesel makes more financial sense?

I would like to point out to anyone considering running their Porsche on plutonium, that plutonium burns to form very fine particulates that hang in the air for a long time. Plutonium oxides are very hazardous to human health, not only because it is a very toxic heavy metal, but also because it is radioactive.

Please have some respect for the environment and your fellow road users, and don't use plutonium in your Porsche.

Uranium, on the other hand, is perfectly fine and does wonders for all the fluffy bunnys
