Hi. Just bought my dream car. 2005, 997 Carrera S. It has the OEM phone fitted and I want to add Bluetooth with streaming. My local guys (Guildford ) are pessimistic of any solution. Someone here must have done this? If so any advice would be so welcome!!

Many options you can search for...
Denison works perfectly now they've updated the firmware.

Great car by the way - pics?

I think that's what's in my car a Denton 500s, I will check model when back off holiday but basically it plugs into the system instead of the 6 disc changer and does the streaming,Bluetooth, phone etc etc, it is good if used daily but for some reason if lefted for a week or so you need to reset it, simple push button to reset but strange none the less!

Having trouble uploading pics. Will do from my iPad tomorrow. Have to say I'm over the moon with the car. It's leggy but solid.

They are great cars, I love mine, there are lots of horror stories about the engine problems etc etc but there are precautions you can take and I absolutely love the engine in mine.

Lots of good advice and stuff on the Web and generally which is really helpful, enjoy!!!

There seem to have been some auto-correct/predictive text problems above.

The beast they are talking about is a Dension.

Guildford pessimistic... as they don't have a solution that they can charge £2000 for!

You could get a Dension system with Bluetooth installed, only issues are that it is pretty clunky to operate,, and you are still stuck with the PCM sat nav which has poor sound quality and is pretty rubbish for navigating. You will pay in the region of £600 to have it fitted, and will lose the use of your Cd changer in case you care. It is not bad just slow to use as every time you wan to to select an item on the menu you do it by holding the >> track forward button and then the menu redraws. OK if you just want to stick shuffle on but frustrating if you have a large music library and are looking for something.

Another option is to spend a little more, maybe £1k, on a new head unit, this will get you something really good with much better sound quality and sat nav, better screen etc
I agree with all of this. I have had my 987 for 5 years and I fitted the Dension as soon as I got the car. Whilst it was excellent to be able to stream music and use the phone without having to move away from an OEM look,it really is clunky. The PCM is not really a pleasure to use when navigating a 6-CD changer and this is made much worse when you have a collection of 1000s of albums.

I just left it on random in the end as it was too much hassle to keep picking what I actually wanted to listen to. It is still the best option if you must stay OEM.

With the release of the Apple CarPlay units this year, I finally decided to put one of those in. £320 for the unit, and it is miles better in virtually every way. It is not OEM, but it is just a flat screen, so actually looks better than all of the fussy knobs and buttons on the PCM in some ways.

The sound is better (not sure why given I am using OEM amp and speakers), the nav is better (several types to choose from if you don't like the Apple one), but most of all the interface feels like it is 25 years ahead of the PCM, not just 10.

I kept the PCM and will put that back in if I ever sell the car. If you did decide to sell it on eBay, it looks as though you could get enough back on it to pay for ths supply and fitting of a new unit.

I would agree with all that is said about the Dension, it does the job but is a bit clunky.

I will actually take mine out and connect back the CD in a couple of weeks as I don't use the car daily so am not that bothered, probably just prefer it all be original.

The Sat Nav and porsche interface unit in general is rubbish, I always remember this being a characteristic of 911, rubbish radio and flimsy indicator stick, don't know why, if I used the car daily I would get a different head unit like the apple suggested, but if you want a secondhand Dension I will be taking mine out in a couple of weeks and selling.

I don't actually have any beef with the SatNav in the 997, and the phone connectivity with the morbid is sufficient - road noise is apparently a very hit and miss thing.

The clunky, awkward part is the 'Music' interface on the iPod.
Playlists of your music makes it 'easier' but still not sweet or ideal.

Even doing 'random' as some say seems to be limited to 99 tracks.? ?
Playlists are limited to 99 tracks the reason is that the dension & mobridge units both work by pretending to the car that they are a cd changer, so all the menus they display are actually the cd-text album titles for 6 theoretical albums. An album can only have 99 tracks on the Porsche system so that's your limit for a playlist. If you have a lot of continuously mixed dance music albums you can't rely on shuffle either for obvious reasons.

Hmm this is interesting reading. I didn't think the PCM or nav was all that bad to be honest. Certainly it's better than the BMW Pro nav in the E82 I just got out of.

I've just bought a 997.2 and I was planning on having the phone (iphone 6), in a Kenu Airframe, with a cable back to the Y-cable in the centre console. From what I understand I can then set the stereo to "aux" and poke music buttons on my phone in the usual way.

IIRC the PCM in the 997.2 is updated from the 997.1, so perhaps that's why I didn't think to get rid of it - or is it the same and a lot of people replace it?

PCM 3 (997.2 and some very late 997.1) is a total upgrade on PCM 2 (most 997.1) - nothing in common. Different physical units, capabilities and interfaces.

I have the latest firmware on PCM3 and its still kinda hokey though. No bluetooth music from phones without external attachments, no internet enabled traffic, poor phonebook management for the inbuilt phone, etc.

Once Im out of warranty I'll almost certainly replace the head unit. I'll miss the integration into the stalks and dashboard speedo area though - that's super nice.

You can interface with some of the buttons, my Pioneer head unit still lets me adjust the track and volume with the steering wheel controls
