991 GT3 Advice Please
Discussion
I've been looking for a track toy come weekend hoon car and no matter what I look at all roads lead back to 991 GT3.
I'd like a CS spec car but wondered what questions I should be asking about the history of the car, I know many have had engine changes under warranty so should I look for one with a new engine or not. Are there any must have options etc?
I know nobody likes talking about residuals and nobody knows in reality but if I'm paying 130-140k for a car what would you budget to lose in say 12months and 5k miles.
Cheers
Steve

I'm on engine 3 now and have a feeling others will be joining me shortly.
Most cars on engine 2 have done no miles or track work so if there is a fault it hasn't shown up yet.
All cars are still covered by the 2 year warranty, most have a 3 year warranty and some a 4 year warranty so its not an issue as Porsche will, if needed, slip a third engine in for you.
You will love the car for sure

Lose? Have you not been following any of the residual value threads? You will make money in 12 months my friend! Av185 will be along shortly to tell you how much. Cheers
Steve
There's certainly plenty to choose from at the moment. Owners certainly seem willing to cash in, despite the cars mythical status.

Good grief that's a bit sobering. So I need to budget for an engine every couple of years once out of warranty? Most cars on engine 2 have done no miles or track work so if there is a fault it hasn't shown up yet.

I've read all the opinions that people have got out of the Gt3 to take delivery of their RS but is this true or do people see the top of the market so have jumped ship.
re depreciation, as you say, who knows?
If you buy at £135 k for a nice CS (and I think that is top dollar no matter what people are asking)then ? 20 - 25k over the next year as I can't see them maintaining a premium over list for much longer. But I have a history of selling cars just before they take off in value so best ignore me
Great car for your requirements though and still cheap motoring compared to many of the competition. Ongoing engine issues not too much of an issue in warranty but sad to hear. And there is worse to come in terms of numbers I fear...

Seriously though, mega car but so sad that they have this issue with the longevity of the donkey - i think i'd get a bit bored after the 3rd time i had to run an engine in.

This guys not a million miles away, I have been watching these for some time and most cars have been for sale for a very long time. Some say they are losing as much as 3k a week at the moment. Very few cars have sold over the last few months.
Now may not be the best time to buy if you are worried about future values.

one at the ring last week ... poor bloke could only manage 4 laps on part throttle as the thing kept going into limp home mode ... when you factor in bespoke insurance, travel and 3 nights hotel costs, a complete waste of a very expensive trackday, i would have been livid personally
That must be so frustrating Do you know what the problem was?
