Currently mooching through classifieds and casting the view wide throughout the range and consistently there seems to be reports and anecdotes about engine issues throughout many models.

I'm just wondering if there are any post 2000 models that can be truly held up as 'a pretty sure bet' that won't be odds on to bore score/implode/need a full rebuild?

For reference im not a for or against any brand enthusiast look for an argument I'm just keen to hear more from those who have the real world experience.

I had a 987 from 2006 to 2011 from new and it had a water pump go IIRC and the dealer replaced the RMS once though I'm not entirely sure if that wasn't a little bit of a "Well it's under warranty so we'll do it and bill Porsche" job.

I had the safety net of having owned it from new so I knew how it had been driven and I knew how it had been maintained

What's your budget?

Look at the Model Year 2009 models with the 3.6/3.8 DFI engines.

turbo or GT3 from 2000 onwards are reasonably safe as long as you find a good one. Having said that if you buy one and it needs a clutch, rads, major service, brake discs and pads all at the same time that could be pricey if you're not on first name terms with a good Indy.

One point, though.

Any 911s/Boxsters not on the above list are often a lot, lot cheaper to buy and any engine work (if any is needed; it's not guaranteed!) will be a lot less than the price difference.
