4WD have more initial turn-in 'bite', especially in the rain. Since the 997, the 4WD has been faster on track in the dry and wet.

I snapped up a 991 GTS as it's an amazing everyday car, in fact I can't think of a single car that can compete with it. My criteria is for back seats for my young kids.

Last NA four seat 911 ever to be built....!! I was speaking with my OPC and we were talking about what I would replace it with, for the first time ever I was stuck. Unless turbo engine get A LOT better I have no interest in a 991.2, so I don't think anybody is crazy to buy a 991GTS. Very few left, cannot be ordered and will have strong residuals.

When Clarkson did a review in The Times of the Carrera 4 GTS he said the 2WD was the one to go for.
I personally did not even consider the 4wd.....I wanted the wide body and rear wheel drive-
in the dry the grip is phenomenal and it corners on rails.....I have to concede that in the wet I have
had the back slide out several times unexpected - but that's what a 911 is all about ain't it?!

As a complete package I can think of no car to compete with the 991 GTS in the price range.

Only lost the back of my 996 C2 once in 6yrs, that was in the wet with me deliberately being a dick off a roundabout with a lot of camber.

I do try to drive mine as Porsche intended, that's why I'm curious as to the advantage of 4WD. Anyway, going right off topic, sorry OP.

Better in what way? Genuinely interested.
the nanny electronics kicked in much earlier in the 2wd version ,the 4wd also felt a bit more connected to me,Corners where the 2wd would start sliding were just brushed aside in the 4wd car.

If Autocar are to be believed (and its a big IF), the GT cars AND the GTS are to keep N/A engines.

I've ordered a GTS Cab and the build is about to be locked down. Torn between Carmine Red (unique to the GTS variants) and Agate Grey. Any suggestions? The red is a bit in your face but I have two grey cars already. I considered Sapphire Blue but doesn't really work with black wheels and hood (I don't think). What do you recon?

Go for the Red; i'm fed up of seeing cars in black/silver/white (sadly, i'm in that camp).

Don't know, that's why I'm asking? Surely all wheel drive a better all round car? Welcome opinions!
Hi Ian - my two pennies. I have an AWD 997 because I specifically wanted a Targa and therefore had no choice of 2 or 4. In the wet it definitely hauls itself out of a roundabout better than my old RWD 335i used to - no chance of the rear letting go. However, I believe Porsche will tell you that the 4 gives you better stability at very high speed in a straight line (Autobahn) and of course in the wet, better traction off the line (the reason the non-GT Turbos have all had it since 996). Notice these two scenarios are both straight line - no mention of cornering...

Dan Prosser from Evo took me for a few laps of Anglesey in a 991 Carrera S in the tipping rain in November 2014. In manual mode, with PSM off he was booting it out of the hairpin (the exit is slightly off-camber too) and I felt sure it would slip at that speed and under that load - but it didn't! I couldn't believe how much it held on in the tipping rain. The only time it got loose and required any opposite lock was under heavy braking - under power, no loss of traction. This experience completely changed my opinion of 2 versus 4 in a modern 911. Next time I will definitely be in a 2!!

Hope this helps and good luck with your search.

The carmine is stunning on the coupe ..with black wheels, and also the sapphire is beautiful on the coupe,I spent a long time perusing the carmine and sapphire gts at my opc when deciding on my colours ,agate is very interesting as well ,you would not be worng with any of those although I have not factored in the roof element as I only looked at coupes.

I agree - saw 991 GTS in Carmine with Platinum wheels in our village yesterday - absolutely stunning.

I'm a big fan of the boring silver / grey colours, as evidenced by my current cars (silver, silver, grey, silver) and I sold my Atlas grey 997 C4S to purchase my silver GT3 where Agate grey was a strong contender!

The GTS does look good in Agate, particularly with dark wheels, but I think in your position I'd be tempted by Carmine red (also with dark wheels) - it's a really classy colour, not so much 'in your face' as Guards Red, and of course is a special GTS colour.

I think boxster and cayman will go turbo, keeping the 911 N/A.

read todays autocar .Tons of porsche stuff but for the OP....

Autocar reckon the 991.2 will have turbo engines..but they will continue with 991.2 gts models which will be n/a ,but they will have the updated interiors and body bits etc.

Everyone at the OPCs that I have visited have said confidently that we are getting 2.9T engines in the 911.

Thanks. here it is in Carmine with roof down. Don't have one with roof up.

Are those wheels black? I think platinum looks better with a Grey exterior.

Agreed. It would be a very strange approach indeed.

I can't see the GTS being slower than the S. Nor can I see Porsche giving it a strong enough NA engine to be faster than the S. Making a sub-GT3 engine would be possible, I guess, but quite a strange and expensive approach.

I expect that very few potential GTS buyers would be put off by the turbo engine. Most of the people who care will just stump up for a GT3 (of which I expect Porsche may well build more than hitherto). A sub-GT3 might actually make sense, but it would be different from the GTS (range topping normal 911).
