Here speaks a Chap who is generally only interested in the driving experience - but the character of the 964 gets under your skin and adds something quite substantially tangible to the experience. Probably the best road car (for my requirements) i've ever owned. In my league of favourite ever 911's it sits just behind the 996RS. Praise indeed
Horses for courses I guess. I'd say the 996 or either 997 RS is a much better drive than the 964. The 964 has a certain charm about it, but no way could I ever say it was better than the others.

I can see why you would say that. I will qualify my statement.

I'm referring to a 964 set up as mine is which a very extreme set up. Also, that I am referring to a road car. I see the 996 and 997 Gt3's as predominately track cars. If I were looking for a car to satisfy both criteria, it would have to be a 996/7 GT3. Any would do but for me the best would be the 996RS

I have a 964 C2 and a W123 230E. The Mercedes just shaves it on the satisfying door open/shut stakes!

Yep. Great platform. Very easily tunable. Delicate enough to realy enjoy at low speeds. The 996/7 GT3's are a little like that but really come into thier own on the track. The 964 is lovely on the track but more at home on the road.

I agree. W107 and W126 have amazing build quality too. Shame all these old cars rust for fun.

What's the set up if you don't mind me asking, ie, geo?

On the 964 is 3 degrees of neg camber front and rear, from memory 10 min of toe in on the rear and a little less on the front. Max caster and RS-20mm ride height. Brakes are 993RS on the front and 964RS rear. KW clubsport suspension. I use the forward bias of the brake set up to keep the nose down to the apex which prevents much f the bumpsteer issues associated with 964's

Thanks.

Whilst not as accomplished driver as you, I might move my settings towards those and see how it feels.

Agreed. W124's were pretty good on the rot stakes . I had a 300TE24 for a good few years. Plus a R107 500SL, sold when the door swung back on the wives shin when she was getting out of the drivers seat. 109 300 SEL 6.3, W116 450 SEL 6.9, W126 560 SEC and a W140 Brabus 7.3S. Shame you cannot keep everything

Nice looking, late Varioram, 993. But mileage will exclude 'collectors' and c.£40-45k is about right for a nice usable example with some cash spare for running repairs. All IMO of course.

Are there any nice well maintained Vario C2 manual coupes for sale at that price though?
