Other than turbo's and RS's, it's looking like the market is losing a bit of love for the 993. I've seen prices soften across the board and in different countries. Mechanically it's the last and perhaps the best of the air cooled generation but it just doesn't have the classic iconic 911 shape which is essentially the point of it all for many buyers and collectors. 993's - odd front end, still too new, sort of half way between the air cooled and the water cooled era's - hard to see where it will go in the future beyond it's own particular loyal fan base. Except for a bit of a surge a couple of years ago, it doesn't seem to be keeping up with the overall rising air cooled tide.

I think that the market currently favours the retro body shell whch ended in the 964, which aparently is a Hipsters dream beacuse he actually looks cool in it and only a complete twerp when he gets out of it. He probably doesnt know what a 993 is yet. Beardy man does understand (maybe) what a 993 is and is desperate to get one in his polishing den. However, He does not have Have Hipster Man's 6 figure salary for thinking up logos for Cream crackers, nor is his wife's name Tamera or his childern called Twistren and Corriander.

On this basis, expect to see 964 prices rise and 993 prices fall... Until the 90's become cool then it will of course be the other way round.

For the purposses of objectivity, and to those who may feel there is an ulterior motive. I have no personal gain in making this statement as I own both a 964 and a 993. I also look like a twerp when im driving both of them and while im out of the as well..

Very funny ; as I also own a 964 , I plan to change my kids names and ensure that I look ridiculous when I get both in and out of it . I will also make a career move into marketing if it helps smile

You must also grow a large beard which points at 45 degrees and wear your hair in a bun.

Mr Hipster also knows Singer uses 964s as a basis, so is buying into that. I have a 993 C2 and I think the looks are fantastic, particular in profile and from the rear. The front is weaker and I think the 959 suffers the same way - it's the rounded nose with the slatted air intakes and underbody plastic bits (usually a bit wonky and tatty after parking front-in over kerbs). Must be standard on Cup wheels, orange indicators etc. Arena Red car: poor ad, Marmite colour inside and out, miles, wheels, plates. air freshener on mirror and odd stick-on bits.

on a side note, which do you prefer Steve? I work in advertising but went 964 > 993 and can't grow a beard which just about rules me out of both the sandles & man bun brigades, although I do like couscous. I also manage to look like a plonker in my car, got beaten at the lights by an angry chav girl in a pink fiat 500 the other day as I refuse to ref hard below 3k rpm. Hang on, I must be in the beard & sandles demographic..

(hi all -1st post but longtime lurker and regular poster on 911uk as 'badlands')

Agree, the seller of the arena red 993 has his head in the clouds in terms of prices! I bought my 993 privately a month or so ago, non-vario Iris Blue carrera coupe manual, marble grey/blue interuor w/ 111k miles on the clock, no air-con. Significant recent work on scuttle rust by Precision, almost new pads discs and tyres, hollow turbo twist 18" wheels, door check done, refreshed suspension a few years back, drove great...i know as i had 964 before then 993 cab before that. Price was aprox £33k.

The red one is varioram and I think has aircon. Thus I make it's selling price as around 36 to 37k max sold privately. So for the seller to think it's 'reduced to a quick sales)' at 43k is crazy talk.

As further reference points for the market, last month I sold my 964 C4 manual coupe with unoriginal paint (had been repainted green from original white paint) and 117k miles + recent £12k engine rebuild by rpm technik to a dealer for £29k...could have maybe got a few thousand more if wasnt in a rush. They just sold it for around £35k.

Prices are def levelling out or gradually dropping for the aircooled. Unless sellers get realistic & stop being greedy then their cars with languish in the classifieds forever. Thats coming from a seller & buyer
Saw your car, North London dealer? It was a great car indeed, sold very quickly as I think the pricing was very fair!

yep, that's the one! Maybe that's what changed since last year now the hysteria has died down a bit. Fairly-priced cars still sell quickly (like the 993 I bought) but those priced too high now sit rather than getting snapped up in a panic by people anxious to jump on an appreciating asset

Shame it wasn't colour changed to Viper Green, rather than Forest Green. Not a show stopper but I'd have to change those 993 alloys for Cup 1's.

you're going to have to explain that one to me. If I am UK based and buying a house in GBP why would GBP devaluation impact house prices in GBP (if anything it stokes foreign demand)

I changed them to gold 17" Porsche Sports Classic wheels with Yokohoma AD08s. Put the cup 2 wheels back on to sell the car

This is where it gets tricky - going bald due to huge levels of testosterone (well that's what I tell the ladies) so the man bun is a no go and the beard is tricky as I'm not man enough to grow one - maybe I should just admit defeat and see the car frown

What are you selling?

The green 964 was at Portiacraft on A41 near Mill Hill Broadway tube.

All jokes a side, to be honest, as much as I like 993s their reliability and the current prices still do not make any sense (for me at least). Just recently again a few weeks ago, saw a beautiful 993 carrera 4 being towed away near central London, over weekend. I think some of the clean, earlier water cooled versions (996 or 997) makes a bit more sense to make a fun purchase at least.

Are you sure it was not being nicked.
I must admit that I am not a great fan of the 993 look. Save for the 993GT2 that looks the absolute dogs dangly bits. One of the very best looking 911's of all time
