I have never seen so many cgt for sale at the moment, especially in the usa,i guess owners hoping to cash in on the inflated prices.
US market is hell-bent on labelling these 'Million-dollar cars'. On (very) rare occasions, for odd colours or no miles, they have sold for $1m.

It's almost like an 'end of times' auction.

TBF, you really can see the way both the enthusiast driver and collector are thinking; "the newest and latest are no longer the best, all hail the analogue, pure-petrol Kings!"

Yes, I'd agree. I ought to have said it is a combination of a frothy, QE/ZIRP driven market and the realisation we may well have now passed 'peak Pork', if not peak car.

For me, possibly F40, although the 'rea deal' F1 V12 in the F50 is a beguiling prospect.

As for Porsche, I think perhaps the GT1 is the 'road' car I'd most love to try.

As for 911s, I'm smitten by the 997.2 GT3. Nothing 991 even comes close for me. I'm at the point where I know whether I make the stretch to buy one, or decide against, there could be regret in the future...

Thanks for the answers...I know it is all a little bit up in the air still (thank you for also confirming that it will be NA). I guess wait until launch Detroit/Geneva and take it from there.
Coincidentally, I'm one rung down the ladder from you on both counts; currently in a 996tt and pondering an upgrade to a 997 GT3...
Lets go together and aim for a PH Group buy for GT3's - much like the lego one but larger and pre built

rofl I did genuinely chuckle at the idea. Not least the notion that two, fussy, OCD individuals might ever identify a car each anywhere and any one time. My thoughts waver from "going, fking do it you puff" to, "wait and see how next year goes and get a bit more capital to throw at it".

Not so long ago spotted this beauty, when I was visiting my parents in their retirement pad at Istanbul. Apparently, the owner is a long-time enthusiast and prof. racing driver, a friend of my father!

A 2.7RS is a lovely thing. But even in the current market I do not see it worth anymore than a £100K over a 2.4S. If you said a mint 2.4S is worth say £200K an RS is worth no more than £300K in my eyes.
Lightweights at £1,000,000 plus. I just don't see it.
The CGT is a different kettle of fish. I agree with cmoose that although never having driven one it will be the best analogue supercar you can buy and at relatively sensible money considering the alternatives. F40 with its on off power delivery is no fun on the road. Zonda poor traction. F50 ugly. Enzo twaddle shift and ugly. Maca F1 silly money but wonderful but a generation behind the CGT. Silly driving position for us old folks.
CGT ticks all the boxes. V10 normally aspirated engine developed by the footwork formula 1 team with Porsche. Manual gearbox. Carbon fibre tub. Carbon fibre bodywork. I'd have one in a heartbeat. Black with black leather please.

It's not all plain sailing with a CGT either. That clutch is a barsteward, and needs some getting used to, and trusting the anti-stall. And it's a big old LHD beast.

Love this thread.
People actually in the market are driving the prices.
Bought a 73RS within the last 6 months and to me it was worth every penny. Just love it. This and my CGT are the best cars I have ever owned, 288 GTO included.

The clutch is absolutely fine, a doddle, just use the anti stall, what's the problem?
Car is LHD, sure, but "big", "old"?

Alpinestars isn't wrong though. The cgt is a big car, overly so imo especially in the UK and the clutch is unnecessarily annoying to use (not helped by the constant worry you're fked if you do something that slips it too much given the cost of replacement). I didn't think that a few years ago re the clutch but with more miles I can't entirely disagree with him.

No comma after the big. Big old beast, not referring to age but giving emphasis to the big part.

Great car in the right circumstances. Too difficult too much of the time. That's what's keeping prices depressed IMV.

Morning Andrew - what's the anti stall all about ? How does the clutch feel - weight / position / ease of use, etc : cheers smile
