Is the bubble about to burst?

It seems a strange way to sell cars, maybe it works for some dealers but not others, they seem to hang on to certain cars and up the price every few months, hoping they'll sell. It's not just modern / classic Porsches either. Case in point - back in 2010 I was looking for a Mk2 Cooper (shortish production run '67 to '69), I went down to GC Motors in Kent who had a nice looking restored example, up for £10k which they'd had for about eighteen months. It still needed a few bits doing so I offered £9k which they refused so I walked away and found another one cheaper elsewhere which I bought. Roll on two years and that same Cooper is still there with a price tag of £13k. Earlier this year I noticed it's still there with the price upped to £16k. I had a look again a few days ago and it's still there, with the price now at £20k. They've had it for at least six and a half years...!
That just means they're not bothered about actually selling it and just trying it on to see if they can get over the odds for it. I've seen this a few times with classic dealers, especially in a perceived rising market. I've seen it in the house market too. You don't see this very often in a falling market!pete a said:
If you look through the classifieds there are a lot of cars that have been for sale for months and months yet are still at the same price, I include in this some newish stuff as well not just aircooled cars.
The funny thing is how bullish sellers are with regards to price, they have cars at high asking prices that are not selling yet when asked about the car they come out with things like "Full asking price only, no offers considered, this is an investment blah,blah,blah..." Then the full history mentioned in the advert is in fact only a stamped book with NO supporting invoices for works done in the life of the car, or there is a five year gap in the FULL history etc.
I think at the moment sellers really think it doesn't matter how long they sit there for sale as they are not going to ever drop and be worth less, so they are confident it's like money in the bank anyway, IF that confidence disappears then people are going to be looking at a loss every week it doesn't sell, then things will become interesting.
Further to the above, the car I enquired about mentioned above with the full history which is actually 8 services in 13 years with no service receipts apart from the last one, which was full asking price or not at all has strangly become woth an extra 1000 quid today. Buyer beware. The funny thing is how bullish sellers are with regards to price, they have cars at high asking prices that are not selling yet when asked about the car they come out with things like "Full asking price only, no offers considered, this is an investment blah,blah,blah..." C4S prices are rising fast at the moment so not surprising really. Probably be up another £1000 next week!http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/p...

They're not all going up. This one's come down 2k in 2 months :http://www.autostradacars.com/used-cars/porsche-91...
Being misdescribed won't help of course...

....No substitute for a one owner car...
Oh dear......that's going to be a problem for the new buyer if he ever wants to sell it on I bought my P38 Range Rover from them, had the car over 5 years now was the cheapest on sale in the UK at the time but has turned out to be one of the best of its kind. They are a volume quick turn around dealer, they make money the complete opposite way to classic dealers. I even told them when I bought the range it was under valued but hey just said oh well it sold within a day (I arrived when they where washing it and was first to view, early bird and all that) and they made a bit of fast money on the deal so they where happy enough. If a dealer like that is pricing a just shy of 100k C4S at that price than I personally take that as a much clearer view of the reality of the market rather than the fantasy many have been trying to push for such cars and many others marques/models.

I think it's fair to class that as 'full history' http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/p...
This went yesterday at a hammer price of £33,500. http://classiccars.brightwells.com/viewdetails.php....
Feedback from someone who viewed it in detail, with the intention of bidding, it is that the body has rot everywhere and car requires a full restoration. There is no way you could take that starting price plus restoration costs and get a LHD 69E at a sensible price.

I've been looking for early 3.4 996's Tip either a C2 or C4.
I saw this one on Autotrader on Tuesday priced at £11995. Put in an enqy for a part ex on my current car.
Went to check today and couldn't see it on Autotrader at first and remarked to my gf that it must have sold already.
Checked on their website to find it hadn't sold, it was now being advertised at £18000.

This one has been in the classifieds for months @ £54k.
So what do you do if it hasn't sold? Up the price by £20k, of course.

To be honest I have been keeping my eye on the market for the last 2 yrs.
I think its slowing down in a big way now, cars have been hanging about gathering dust for nearly 2 yrs at least.
Going to be nice price corrections very soon IMO.
