Is the bubble about to burst?
Discussion
I enquired about this a year or so ago.

Up for about £19k back then with a private seller, I emailed him a few questions regarding faults I could see in the pics, such as rear bumper not quite lining up properly, chipped and faded lights etc. If he'd have said "Yes it has a few niggles as well as x,y and z I'd have still been interested, I was just weighing up the car and its ownership, trying to form a picture of what it needed, as you do. Anyway, he didn't reply that, he replied one line saying "This isn't the car for you". It hung around for a good few weeks.
I now see it on with a dealer in the same condition for £37,000! I couldn't live with it at £19k let alone double that. Again it's hanging around.
Lots of chancers. The people who actually want or need to sell will be pricing things more realistically over the next few months as the sunny weather has drawn to an end and they now have the prospect of waiting until next summer to get top dollar and things may have cooled even more by then.
This is more sensible bar the wheels not being original and the interior needing a bit of tlc. Very sensibly priced though. In Guards red too.

Hopefully when I'm looking to buy in a year or so things will be back to normal. Wishful thinking most probably but we'll see.

The amount of vanilla 964s that have been offered or even sold at anything close to £50k recently is minimal to none. Most c2/c4 manual coupes are in the £32-45k range. I don't think that's outrageous for one in good condition. There are a lot of "Cassandra's" on here at full voice. Can't wait for this massive market correction you are all predicting. It's been coming for 12-18 mths now going by what the ph crowd think. I guess even a broken clock is right twice a day

You only have to look a the volume of gt3 cars for sale currently, most of which have been for sale for the best part of the summer.
To me this is a sign people are concerned knowing a sizeable drop is not that far away.
I've got to agree with this, there are a lot of GT3's sitting around and in the last couple of weeks some have had 2-5k lopped off the asking but they are still unsold? To me this is a sign people are concerned knowing a sizeable drop is not that far away.
I didn't mean to get out of mine as I crashed it and got paid out on a total loss, however the £82k settlement looks better every week at the moment.
I do however think 996 C4S's are the next big riser

Maybe "strong retail money" but i would have taken both the 997.2 and 991 (both particularly great examples) at 90% of advertised price (and I'm a tight bugger)

Hey Russ, no hedges were harmed I just got my left and right mixed up in Switzerland at the exact moment a very large bus came around the corner.
Easy done when on your own in Europe in fact a few people on the trip forgot what side to be on but got away with it. I was just unlucky.
Only going about 20 mph so not even a case of losing control just bad timing and carelessness when tired.

some very nice cars listed for sale-
could not believe 'reserved' on the 4.0 at that price
along with several other grade A cars- JZM certainly seem a clued up
outfit...they do the job properly.

Precisely. It's all the crappy overpriced cars that arn't moving right now, cars that are top class are still moving easily and fast.
Barring some unforeseen financial policy change IMO the market will take off again Marchtime with the good stuff heading Northward.........Especially if China reviews it's Classic Car policy.

I think that's a pretty accurate assessment. The classifieds seem to be clogged up with a lot of average, higher mileage, and over priced stuff that isn't selling. This end of the market needs a correction - a lot of it will never be 'collectable'.It's all the crappy overpriced cars that arn't moving right now, cars that are top class are still moving easily and fast.

The top and quality end of the market may have become a bit more price sensitive, but I suspect it will remain robust.
Yes- the market has slowed but rare desirable cars are still shifting........
Anglia car auctions sold a BMW Z8 recently for 120k.
A rare Bristol convertible estimated at 50k sold at auction for 110k
JZM just sold the 4.0 997 for 435k
The more average stuff is sticking around- but 911 Virgin can still sell a 993 C2 for 50k
without any issues.....
I will be waiting for the depths of winter and then picking up a 964 c2 for 20k.

Mmmm..that'll be a Targa with Tiptronic gearbox, 160k miles, no history and an aftermarket steering wheel!
Lol.......or a pram version. Whoever thinks a nice 964 c2 manual coupe will be £20k again is having a laugh. Go buy a 2.9 cayman Gassing Station | Porsche General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
