Theres nothing wrong with a 2.9 Cayman, lovely car, but its hardly a replacement. Its totally different.If you want an air cooled 911, you will need to buy...... an air cooled 911!
If you are happy buying a Cayman, you didnt really want an air cooled 911!

Ed no doubt you started it for the right reasons but for some it's an excuse to 'big up' the value of their cars. All a bit boring now.

Like you I've little interest in losing cash BUT my priority is actually driving and having experience from an ownership standpoint.
I've become so bored of 'what's it worth' .

They battery on my 993 has gone flat as I haven't used it in a few weeks 
But I did take the MiL out in the BGTS to scare her a little.... 
Just as an extra data point: I've recently been trying to part-ex my beloved 964. One specialist car dealer (not exclusively Porsche) offered me £20K, a well known Porsche specialist offered £25. If I had been selling privately then the hope was for £30K. My aspiration for trade-in had been £28K. I thought I was being realistic but it sounds like either I wasn't, or the market has moved.

You should see what I've been offered in the last few weeks for my 997.1 GT3 compared to the asking prices on ads On the plus side, I still own my 964 :-)
