Wow. £60k for an Escort RS turbo mk1! My dream car that was when I were a whipper. Is that including fees?

I followed this w/e's Silverstone sale - as usual, mixed quality, but big event at grim time of the year.

There's clearly still a buoyant market, with some strong bidding and prices are + B.P. Much of what didn't sell still had healthy bidding, but over ambitiously high reserves.

The prices stated on that link do include the B.P.

^^this^^

as an enthusiast unfortunately this growth looks set to continue, as quite a chunk of the liquidity sloshing around is tethered to the housing market. Industry predictions show some areas of UK house prices are going to increase between 15% and 40% by 2020. And even then, demand will still be outstripping supply.
Something to do with over population apparently....

A hot market at the moment seems to be low mileage 1990's and early 2000's hot hatches, sports cars and exotica.

I was at the auction over the weekend. Good cars with low miles made very strong figures.
930 was immaculate. The RS turbo created a real buzz as did the RS500. i think they sold 80% of the lots but i wouldn't be at all surprised if that went up with sales afterwards.

Don't mock. It's a well known fact that people who sell the most expensive coffee can afford to buy the best crystal balls.

Indeed, but of course they are all part of 'mechanism' that drives the values, whether we like it or not! Its hard to be analytical about these things as its all driven by unquantifiable things like, confidence, emotion, status, desire, history, passion and yes, trends.

Is a 993RS worth £200k+? It depends on how you define value. If I won the lottery, I would buy one.

All I know is that there is a lot of love for these cars and supply is dwindling generally. And the market has grown to include new markets i.e; the BRIC countries.

Unless a load of collectors start flooding the market with cars, I can't see how this will change.

Agree. Great or seminal cars will always be sought after. We've seen some serious collectors moving in on the 928 market recently, quite a few high £££ sales.
On the point of carbon usage restrictions, many Classic enthusiasts & collectors already have these in place, with limited mileage policies starting at 1,500 miles per annum. This section of the market seems quite self-policing.

This is interesting as I'm in the market for one of these in the right spec for me. A link or PM would be great to help understand the market - there's a big spread out there right now!
