Initially I wanted an investment. Now I just want a sorted 911. I am looking at 2 x 996 C4S that are both full service history.

One has sunroof and Bose. 60,000 miles. Seems in near perfect condition

Other one has new clutch, gundo mod and aftermarket top quality sat nav. 56,000 miles. Again in superb condition and a ex 911Virgin car.

For the same cost I can get a 50,000 mile 2004/5 997 C2.

Help me ! I just don't know anymore !

I'd buy the 997 - improved and prettier car IMO

Both great cars. I can understand the dilemma . But if the two cars were parked beside each other and I had to make a choice I'd take the keys of the 997. Quicker, better interior, it's got the little rear wheel arch shoulders and is a newer car.

Well I had the choice and went for the 996.

There is something about the 996 c4s that just makes it a very good looking car. Also I wanted to not lose any money on the purchase so the 996 was the way to go. Plus I could also buy a better condition car by going to the older model.

Why not drive good examples of both and decide which you want, then buy the best example you can afford...buy on condition over mileage.

Both are great cars which have potential issues.

I'd probably opt for a better 996 C4S (manual, coupe in Seal Grey) rather than a very early 997.1 C2/C2S.

I had the same dilemma smile
Decided to go for the best 996 C4S I could find and hopefully maintain the value for a bit. Once I started looking at 997's the price just went up and up...
I think the 997 is a nicer looking car on the inside but the 996 C4S is such a cool looking car. Classic in the making..?
My only regret is that I don't use it enough...

Hopefully seeing a 996 C4S tomorrow and another one on Saturday.

Did I read somewhere that a checklist can be downloaded somewhere?

Have you driven a c4s?

5 years ago i was looking for one as i love the looks, drove one back to back with a facelift 996 c2, bought the c2, was a far better and more '911' drive than the c4s.

They are pretty though.

Take a look at 911UK forum, loads of info and buying info there.
Good luck with the search.

Let us know what you decide

Bought a 996 C4S yesterday :|) Very excited - knew I would buy it the moment I saw it (let emotion get in way too much)

Im in the same boat at the moment. Ive driven a base 3.6 997 Carrera a few months ago and it was okay but sounded muted with std exhaust. It didn't excite me that much. It also didnt look as good as the 996 C4s does. It did however have Hartech rebuild on it which is a major plus.

Have the 997's stopped dropping in price as I think the C4s's have?
