Goodbye RS rep/hotrod
Discussion
Sold my green over white 2.7 RS rep at the weekend (at auction).
Only had it for just over a year. Bought it when we moved back to the UK. It was my 9th 911 (possibly
my last). Fitting as my first 911 was an RS rep although a very different cat (ex race car and quite tatty).
Having had so many 911s covering all series except the 991 the two that stood out were the 996 GT3 (original mark 1) and the last RS rep. Both were great fun to drive. The GT3 sounded better but for driving fun the RS rep was probably the best. I went to Scotland earlier in the year on a trip organised by a group of PH GT3 owners. On those roads it was amazing and I didn't have a problem keeping up. Looked wonderful too - small and delicate compared to the 997s and 991s.
When I first got it it had a loud exhaust, unforgiving Avon tyres and no sound proofing. Over the ear I had it I reverted to a proper Dansk exhaust, more normal tyres (although correct, period profile) and had a bit of sound proofing added. Made it much more useable. Perhaps a bit too quiet if anything.
Reasons for sale echoed the first RS in that I have gone back to motorbikes after a long time out of the saddle (following an accident). Just found that whenever I lifted the garage door I was taking the bike. Much as I loved driving the 911 the bike is just more rewarding - at least on the roads near me. If I lived in Wales or Scotland the choice might have been more difficult.
The RS never missed a trick and I did over 7000 miles. Given that the two cars that preceded it (both Donkeys) had had to be recovered on a flat bed that was very welcome.
I hope the new owner enjoys it as much.

stunning.....would have sold the bike in a heartbeat!
enjoy the road, whatever youre on/in
Part of the problem was that I kept spending money on it. Not that it reallyenjoy the road, whatever youre on/in
needed it but difficult to avoid the temptation to fettle. Was already thinking of refreshing the gearbox and adding a LSD. Front bumper was another item.
Part of the problem is that I spent 16 years off bikes and now I am riding again I am like a child in a sweet shop. Second factor is that riding the bike more challenging (as potentially more dangerous) and you don't really have to worry about getting stuck in traffic as so much easier to overtake. Riding something that will so a quarter mile in under 10 seconds is quite a buzz too!
Oh I understand your motivation entirely, here sits the man who had GSXR's, an R1, 3 Fireblades and finally an RSV-R so yes, nothing touches the adrenaline rush!!I get it it, I really do.
These days I dont bounce as well and find some of the current riding style bordering on the murderously aggressive.... so I hung up my leathers but still keep a weathered on on the 70's /80's classic bikes.
It helps now in a 997.2 turbo with the old acceleration malarkey and coming away from devils bridge last sunday that kawasaki had to earn his knee sliders to get past me!!;)
I would have still have kept that car though......
