I am no expert though I have had all my RS cars in the wet at the Nurburgring, most recently the 991RS and I can say that it was just unbeleivably better than the 997.2 which was no slouch. I recall how twitch that car was in heavy rain ( and the 7.1 was just scary for me). The 991 was so sure-footed that I could not believe it. Also, on the F1 track at the Ring it was possible to do some sill stuff with all of the runoff there and it had the most predictable and mild inserter I have experienced.

Maybe really advanced drivers will have less difference, but for me it was just startling......
Sounds about right, was chatting to friend last night, he races in PCCB,( used to race in single seats) he says big difference from the previous 911s is the way the 991 just feels so planted, even in wet, lot like a single seats....

I don't know Apolo but I am as impressed as he was about the new car.. All cars were on new tires , and of course tire technology has improved over time, so there is an unknown on how the cars would perform on the latest rubber.

2008: good, very scary in deep wet

2010 ; MUCH better...still skittish in heavy rain though

2015: Just mind-blowing....

In the wet though, the car has virtually no bearing on how well it sticks to the road, pretty much all down to the tyres.

The car seems to be sticky in all condition and speeds...rain it on a bunch of alpine roads and dry tracks also, as well as a VMax run. You have to work to make it understeer. I have never been too comfortable trail-braking on a wet Nordschleife in the past, but the new car was a revelation in ability to do that....

Bestest, fastest, most amazing car ever. Cut and paste from every new car Apolo has owned, until he sells them.

Roll on the next new Porsche which will probably exceed the abilities of any F1 car and will probably compete with jet fighters.
Despite being the bestest, fastest, most amazing blurb blurb .... he already has it for sale on PH at £375,000 ! LOL.

918 Owners on other forums that have an RS are saying same thing....

May I enquire, have you changed the geo settings, or left as it comes,? ride height at front seems a little to high for me.

Take it you aware of the diff in the new tyres over the ones on GT3s...

disagree, the car has just under 300% more DF than a 991GT3, on track in the wet it really shows.......much more stable at all speeds and under braking....

Go Apolo Go! I'm loving all this positive information. Who are these knobs that seem to get some perverse pleasure from knocking you and your Porsche 991 GT3RS??

My advice to these people would be try before you judge which is about as likely as ...............

in % terms yes the RS would still have 3x that of a 991 gt3. The absolute amounts involved however at lower speeds like 120-150kmh (which i doubt in the wet many corners at Silverstone are being taken much more than 100mph) are not going to be very large at all though.

I have info that will interest you, like load rates at various speeds, front and rear... also the camber rates you requested, will EM you later.....

for every about every 10 MPH you add on, you can feel the front end just griping....also under braking from high speed about 70% less time required on the peddle than in the GT3, feels like the car is being pushed down..

Interestingly, I assume the three pictures are using the following tyres:
2007 Pilot Sport Cup 1
2010 Pilot Sport Cup +
2015 Pilot Sport Cup 2

The third one will be faster every wet day. Almost 8mm of depth, multi block tread pattern, multi compound.

Mind you, I do expect the 991 RS to be quicker than all previous iterations in all conditions, but I think the level of performance, planted feel, twitching, etc in wet conditions is more likely to be down to road geo and tyre ability.

(At Silvertone in the wet on Cup 2s on a 996 GT3, I find it so much more planted than a 4.0 RS on Cup+)

I fitted Cup 2's to my 964 which is basically standard with a bit of suspension and brakes and it was quick enough be front running in future classics. The physical grip level of the tyre exceeds the mechanical grip of the chassis. Sharpen up the geo and you get real pace. There's so much grip that it will take well over 3 degrees of beg camber without triggering the abs. The cup1 could never offer that option. Combine the cup 2 with the torque vectoring diff, rws and the sharper electronic systems on the 991RS and you have a very fast vehicle for just about any driver. A real plug and play. The aero won't play that much of a part but incrementally it adds something. Handy at B1 and B2

I doubt very much with a number plate could get anywhere near a 991RS

Because it protects the anonanymity of the car if he is unfortunate enough to have an off.

respectfully I disagree, I know the diff between lateral grip, tyre contact and aero.....had a good chat with some WEC drivers at Silverstone and Goodwood, car drives exactly as they said it would,...It has about same amount of DF as the 918,(918 is active)and about 700lb less weight...

keep it lit
