Well I'd have to agree with that! The 997 GTS is IMO where Porsche got the modern era (996/997/991) 911 right, refined enough for a daily commute but raw and special enough for weekend fun. IMO the 991 has just become too refined.

Alternatively, what about a 987 Boxster Spyder and a daily hack. The Spyder is a fantastic fun car although not sure what they are going for now, at mid £30's they were a great car for the money.

"987 Boxster Spyder and a daily hack"

it's not a daily, but you could buy one and buy a Golf DSG for work and keep the spyder for weekends.

that's what he wrote.

it's also the route i would go, enjoyment is often relative and the contrast of having a boring daily driver and an unpractical second car keeps it fresh. there are also situations where you don't want to be "that cock in a porsche".

I'd buy a 987 Spyder and a VW up!. Spyder will be one of the all time greats any way you slice it, Up! is a good enough shopping trolley for the city and so cheap that it is almost disposable.

If that's a concern then by all means buy any other used, small shed. Like the Golf mentioned above. Father of one of my colleagues owns a 918 and can be seen driving an Up every day. I don't think he cares if he looks like a "right tw4at." blah

Me, I would find a extra £5 to £8k and get a good spec 991 C2S.

I have a very nice high spec car for sale at £63k but its a PDK

Anther vote for the 997 GTS - first thing that came to mind when I saw that budget to be honest.

Thanks for all of the replies.

About the 997 GTS, while its definitely extremely desirable is it just me that is put off by the price difference between it and an S, or even regular Carrera?

I'm more inclined to go with the regular 2 or 2S and save £10/15k. I don't think the argument for residuals is too concrete, not after I've stuck thousands of miles on it and bumped it into 50/60k territory.

As above, just go low miles whatever you do. Some people have been fobbed off when trying to get a replacement gearbox under warranty with the line that gearboxes only last 50k miles. The same goes for suspension parts.

I think you have answered your own question!
I found the caymanR not special enough you wont gain or feel much over your 987.2cs I didn't even over a non pasm 987.1cs!,a spyder is a fantastic special car but really a third car but no good if you prefer a coupe!,a 997.2s imo is 10-15% cheaper than a gts but not much less of a car!
Imo a manual non pasm 997.2 is the one to go for!plus it will be well under your budget and cheaper to run ie low rfl.
or if power is your thing you cant go wrong with a manual 997.1 turbo and imo bit of a bargain at the moment as out of all of the above is most likely to increase greatly in value!

As an existing Porsche owner I know exactly what you mean, that said I went low mileage and still had to replace a ton of st.

Part of me thinks that by 50-60k most of the stuff that will fall off has fallen off and has been replaced.

But yes I'd be content with a regular 997, the GTS is great but what I've not driven I won't miss wink

Glad to see I am not the only one against the consensus, problem with the regular 3.6 I've found is most are badly specced!

I think a 3.8 and take PASM on the chin is probably the answer. Anyway we'll see what comes up on autotrader smile

Nice but at first glance way expensive for a manual not from an OPC.
