I don't classify that as a "private" or personal plate when it is fitted on a car that it describes. I.e. if fitted on a GT3 what's the point? Isn't GT3 written on the damn machine anyway? THAT would be a waste. On par with having "red car" on your red car.

We know it's a GT3, and if we don't, we don't care or know what it signifies. And apparently can't read either.

See lots of these stupid plates in Malta, where you can have pretty much anything inoffensive on your numberplate for around a grand. The number of chavvy plates there, well, I'd say that 90% of private plates are chavvy and stupid.

Not being a fan of the vanity numberplate thing which appears to be growing at an alarming rate.......although we must distinguish between 'really good' plates such as this which are clearly perfectly legal, properly spaced and above board.....in fact could well have been in the same family for generations as many early plates have.......and in contrast the 'crappy chavplates' mentality infecting our roadspace as referred to in the long running PH threads. These hideous 'my vanity is more important than the law' plates being illegal 'look at me' stplates often butchered beyond all recognition and often seen on 'aspirational brands' scratchchin and invariably displayed on low rent BMW 3 series, Aldi A4s Mercs hogging motorway outside lanes for no apparant reason. Trouble is, Plod is reluctant to take action apart from a warning.......mores the pity.

GT 3. Valuable plate and properly spaced too.

I was offered ME55GER for my GT3 but I declined.

The only people it would appeal to know all about the engine anyway.

Spend the 'number plate money' on RSS Lower control arms and some dog-bones biggrin

I thought I saw that GT3 plate on a white Gt3 just a couple of weeks ago at the NEC with the sporting bears!

Really?

You mean apart from one is legal the other is not.

No distinction there then.....scratchchin

Private/Cherished plates are a personal choice - exactly the same as one's choice of car, choice of colour or any other choices we make.

Some look quite tasteful and suit the cars they are fitted to, some don't. But, I agree that manipulating the font or spacing usually looks a bit naff.

The best plates can, apparently, be a very good investment.

They certainly can be.

This is a photo from a numberplate book written in 1969 referring to £350 being offered for the GT 6 plate! Presumably for a Triumph of the day. Obviously worth a 'small' fortune today but probably less than GT 3.

The only disctinction is how much money the owner has. The intention is exactly the same, to impress.

Although it is beyond comprehension how the ever growing illegal chavplate culture could remotely impress anyone. Just makes the vanity plater look a complete tool.

Case in point courtesy of the local hairdresser who appears unable to spell his name correctly....hehe

Why....just why?
