more the point is a new 911 now has more steering feel than a 991 GT3 !

bet it's a very nice road car.

I would love one as a daily.
Interesting how you cam compare the steering feel on 2 cars you haven't owned..! But I do agree, 991.2 will be a very nice road car.

The only metric I could consider this better than a GT3 is by newness. In all other aspects I follow wtdoom's great words of wisdom

Does seem a little strange and somewhat contradictory that the 'dire' steering scratchchin as mentioned by some on here had no beraing whatsoever on the 991 GT3 winning Ecoty last year and the GT4 winning this year even ahead of such greats as the RS and 488......biggrin:

I'd argue that the 991 GT3 steering is dire;
That is a bizarre comment & one I just don't agree with - are you sure it was a 991 GT3 you were driving ? smile

Not sure where this thread title comes from
Saw my first 991.2 press car this afternoon and I won't get to drive one for another couple of e
Weeks - will it be better than my 991 GT3? Who knows , I doubt it but who can say until they have driven both

You are kidding, right? Of course it won't be! Your GT3 has one of the most special Porsche engines ever built. The 991.2 has a bloody 3.0 turbo.

If I said that the 991.2 was going to be FWD only and have an I4 Diesel engine and a torque convertor auto, would you still have no view until you drove it?

But Porsche have a commendable record - each new variant has always been an improvement over its predecessor.

I'd be very surprised if they have compromised this successful formula, but I wouldn't dream of passing judgement before driving the new model.

Not sure about that. It all depends on what you want. Faster, yes, but better? I don't think so. A lot of people prefer the 997 to the 991.1, and that's where the new car has the better engine rather than some dull eco turbo.

This threads clearly highlights the divide between the different type of enthusiast. In one corner the 'new is best' and in the other the driver involvement above all else brigade. I have zero lust for this latest creation in anyway shape or form and I'm sure those that want a piece of this pie will consider my choice of cars rusted old hasbeens.

ETA: I don't mean to come across as a beard; but mentioned above is something along the lines of 'how can you compare if you haven't driven it...' The way I see it is I don't need to ride a massive fat bird to know I ain't going to like it, no matter how much she has attempted to tart herself up wink

The thing is this: I have driven a 993 (briefly), a 996, a 997 and a 991.1. I could make an argument for any of those apart from the 991 as being the best of them as a driver's car. I think a lot of people feel that way. I think my hierarchy would 993-997-996, but there isn't much in it (especially between the 997 and 993, as they are quite different but both excellent in different ways). I am also not remotely surprised that some people see the 996 as being the sweet spot, as it all depends on things like intended use and personal taste.

But I cannot get remotely excited about the drive of a 991.1 (as pretty as it is) - too big, too refined, too little steering feel, too grippy, etc.
I cannot imagine a turbo eco engine making the 991.2 anything but much less exciting than the car that came before it. I think people underestimate the extent to which a 911 is really, at least in recent years, all about the engine, at least as far as enthusiasts are concerned.

no it doesn't. you can appreciate both cars without being either of those things. they are different cars for different purposes. with a big difference in price too.

Sorry fellow, we are going to have to agree to disagree; RWS, Electric handbrake, forced induction, torque vectoring yadayada... aint the key attributes I look for in a car for getting my kicks. I can fully appreciate that this car is incredibly fast, has great lap times et cetera, but crucially for me Porsche is a car you buy with your heart and a car you buy for involvement. All the modern technological aids are designed to remove the involvement and in my books that just isn't cricket. To give you an idea of what I am talking about, take a look at the stupid lengths I am currently going through to reverse all these advancements in technology. To most I'm sure this is stupid, but there are a select few who still understand what I am trying to achieve wink
