I have been given a voucher for a set of number plates from fourdot. For those who don't know what these are, see https://www.fourdotdesignerplates.co.uk. They are plates available in the smallest uk legal size, or in shapes to,fit the recess on the rear of specific cars (think Rover 75). On these large shaped plates the actual yellow reflective part is quite small and the shaped border can be had in various colours or designs.
They are not cheap, £145 for the shaped plates.
These are not the sort of thing I would normally put on my car, a black 996 carrera, but as I have a voucher I have been looking at them.
Does anyone here have a set and can comment on them? I am tending towards a shaped rear plate with a plain black surround.

I have a set on my black GT3 and are very pleased with them.

Work particular well on the front of the car.

Can you send me any pictures? Why work well on the front?
Shaped rear, or just a small plate?
Thanks.

I have seen your car on their website, fantastic car. I agree your front plate works well, I will be choosing the same (maybe without the martini stripe).

How does the black surround on the rear match the car, is it "invisible" or does it look obviously different to the paint?

Erm, not sure I really "get" this if I'm honest?

I sort of understand the shaped plates on some cars (eg Rover 75 etc) but as soon as you start adding some of those stripes and 'ring logos on the plate creator page it becomes the middle class version of Halfrauds tat IMHO. And I cant help thinking that the yellow GT4 would look better with just a plain plate...the black surround actually draws attention to it!

I will concede that the short front plate looks quite cool, but I'll also bet that at least 50% of the people who buy these to be legal size wise, are taking liberties with letter spacing anyway!

Just seems an awful lot of money for what it is? Front plate is easily reduced with a bit of research, a circular saw, some wet and dry and some polish!

No offence, each to their own and all that, but this is just not for me thanks.

There is the same issue with the tow hook on a 996.

You could always go for the Classic Range.

I'm tempted by a really nice quality plate and they're a more reasonable £75.

You could also get a really nice quality plate off ebay for 20% of the price.
Comes without the tacky backgrounds too wink

They usually cost me £30 from Fancyplates.com

I think they're well thought out and you can design it as you want it. Fancy background or not.
