They should allocated tg cars based on an online auction. Highest bidder wins
I can't see how that would work. The highest bidder gets first, the next highest bidder second and so on... How much would the 800th bidder pay?

The only truly fair way is to make it a standard production model and let anyone have one who can afford list price. If they can't keep up with demand during the life cycle, they are under pricing it and if they struggle to get orders, it is over priced.

Of course, there is great PR in having grown men get upset about not being allocated a car and the subsequent Internet fuss over cars selling for significantly above list price.

Your last sentence is the whole strategy. Why should they change it? It works beautifully.

An auction would seem to me to be far removed from Socialism.

An auction process would just lead to more complaints that Porsche was selling to its richest customers not the most loyal and genuine enthusiasts.

I think they also need to consider how many halo cars are allocated to black people and other minority groups.

Socialism of Porsche would be more along the lines of "everyone may have one, but each must pay according to his means".

You can't fix it as it's market dynamics outside Porsche's control.

Given GT4 was supposed to find "new customers", they should have only sold to people who don't have another GT car.

As more of these GT cars end up in the hands of people with many GT cars, I can only think this narrows Porsche's appeal and ultimately the cars are not driven enough.
I am sure that Porsche are very much in control! They know exactly what they are doing.

918 owners have easy access to the 991RS, GT4 and the Boxster Spyder . And some of them to the 991R.
It's a club, high membership fee.

Only takes perseverance and some hard graft to get an allocation; worked for a few of us on the GT4. Others like LordOfTheManor just expect a car to be handed to them and given his constant moans on here, possibly has put a few noses out of joint along the way.

He should be happy that he has plenty of other nice toys to play with!

It may well be a club....but there is effectively no membership fee at all having regard to the insane 'long term' premiums that can be realised from the 918, RS, and like as not the R.

Without wanting to rain on anyones parade I doubt the DP has anything to do with who gets what car lol. I guess its his or her job i.e. the DP to ensure the OPC as a whole i.e. new car sales, used sales and servicing hit or exceed budget.
When I sold new Porsche the decision was made between the DP and the sales manager. If you've never ordered a car from there before you would be last on the list.
