Gents,

I'm taking delivery of a new car next month, and have been offered Swissvax treatment at £594. This seems like a lot of money for what you get. Any advice?

Cheers.

Depends what they do with the product itself. I paid less than £300 for a full detail and was very impressed with the finish, 2 stage machine polish, seal and wax. It wasn't swissvax but was literally mirror reflection. You'll pay a premium for the product, personally not sure you'll notice a difference just because it's swissvax.

I'd want something much longer lasting than Swissvax for £500+ - Gtechniq coatings are my preference.

Enjoy the new car.

I wouldn't bother getting it done through the dealer unless you know who the detailer is. But I'd be looking at half the price you've been quoted for a Swissvax.

If you're willing to spend £600, then I'd sooner take it to a reputable detailer and get a ceramic based treatment for that sort of money. If you want to save a few £'s, still take it to your local reputable detailer and a Swissvax is normally around £350

As for the Swissvax product, my car had the Swissvax treatment back in November and it's still shining and beading nicely!

With the ceramic polishes does it create a problem if you need body work at a later date?
Having spoken to a body shop guy last year he was saying what a pain the silicon waxes are.

No, Gtechnique is just sanded off. Best value and finish IMHO.

Thanks guys, a subject I know little to nothing about, but 600 quid for a wax treatment did seem a bit steep!

+1 Had Gtechniq 'dealer only' applied platinum products (their general term of products that covers exterior paint, glass, wheels, interior) to my 997 ten months ago & it still beads very well & paint still feels like silk. It has a five year guarantee & you get £100 of Gtechniq goodies to help maintain the finish. Cost was approx £550. Their Crystal Serum coating offers even better protection & gloss. When my new 981 Spyder lands in May I shall def be making a trip to a Gtechniq detailer.

I've been quoted £750 for my CGTS. That include glass, wheels etc.

As an ex-car salesman I loved it when buyers, often with more money that sense, fell for such after-treatments. My boss & my bank balance loved it even more & many a chuckle was shared over a coffee.

Quite. The trouble is, all these treatments do actually offer a benefit, some are exceptional in fact, the most gaulling thing is that when they are applied by main dealers they are usually done so badly with little or no prep that they are in fact a waste of money. I'm not so sure that it is something to be proud of to be honest.

ETA, op, I've just had my 993tt done by my pal who is a Swissvax trained/operator bod and the results are superb.

But he's not wrong is he.

Don't pay a dealer, get a proper detailer in and have it done properly for less.

My Lava Orange GT3RS was given the full treatment by Topaz Detailing. As the work was done at my OPC in Tewkesbury I had asked that all the processes were observed by the workshop staff plus Topaz supplied me with stage photographs. ( Life has taught me to be cynical) All the paintwork has been cutback to where there are simply no swirls or defects whatsoever, the sheen that they have achieved with their choice of polish is amazing. The whole car was then covered with Suntek 2 with the addition of Excel on high impact areas, then it was polished again. This will then offer self healing protection from stone chips. I'm afraid I do not accept that ceramic polish will offer any stone chip protection. My fabulous RS looks amazing I could not be more pleased.

Precisely.

Dealer offered treatments are way, way over priced. End of.

Get a well referred independent detailer to quote and do the work for a lot less.

I have done several cars myself with G-techniq G2 with no problems.
It's not rocket science if you watch the videos, and costs less than £70.
Result is always great, especially on new paint, just remember to clean well with alcohol first.-

Gtchniq crystal seruml topped off with Collinite 476S Super Double Coat Car Wax or R222 100% Carnauba wax will be way long-lasting and look just as good.

Dont bother with the dealer offered protection packages. The valeters are given minimal time and little training in how to prepare and protect your new pride and joy properly, and a Swissvax Treatment will only last a few months on a daily driven car so will need topping up on a regular basis.

For what they are charging you could get a professional in like myself to ensure the car is perfect and well protected with a coating that will last longer.

Paint Protection is a firm favourite for dealerships as the mark up is massive, the sales team are always keen to push these treatments on you as they get a commission for each one sold.

Do NOT allow an OPC anywhere near your car's paint. You may as well sandblast it or throw bricks at it.

Take it to a proper specialist. Topaz Detailing, for example. It will cost the same or a little more, but they will do the job rather than just scratching the f@ck out of the paint.
