Hey guys. I'm new to the page, just looking for advice. I'm going to look at a 54 plate megane dynamique 1.5dci 80. I'm just weary about the horror stories of reliability issues both mechanically and electronically. I'm very aware of the reputation Renault have and hence am weary about getting it. Again I'm just looking for advice and opinions. I'll be doing 400+ miles a week.

at least 2 windows won't work! but easy fix £14 relay on ebay ,or tighten window motor connector.turbos bit weak, check for smoke level and noise.listen for tapping at top of engine, cam wear.check keycard condition,as they are £180 to get one made up.ideal if it has 2 working keys though. rear exhaust box give it a shake,if it's loose be exhaust hanger bracket £15 easy job.if megane check handbrake lever is in one piece and not falling apart{£300 for new lever!} if its a scenic make sure elec.handbrake does work as £700 new!check wiper arm drivers side,if it's loose and wobbles about that's another £100 for the arm. will need ball joints,as they fail every year without fail! look for wet on floor{front} and drivers door card pocket may get wet too. rear discs,if thin will need changing as these wear badly on these too.

Thanks for the reply, very helpful. I've read about problems with injectors and engine issues. Are they prone to this? Is the 1.9 dci any better?

1.9dci better, but they eat turbos. bottom end tend to knock as well, go for one that been looked after, they can do 250k miles if well treated.

You're looking at a 12 year old megane and concerned it might be unreliable?

Good luck with it. Braver than me and I own a mk3 Laguna!

It will have issues. Most cars that age will do. Just dont expect it to be as reliable as a k9 micra!

As a Renault salesman, I wouldn't touch it; early Megane II's were shocking, the facelift; 55 plate onwards, is worlds away.

Stay very clear.

Oops just noticed the date when the OP enquired; perhaps I am too late with my advice.
