Whilst we are on the topic of tyres I have just changed my first set of cup2s at 7000miles. A mix of road and track use. Which I don't think is to bad. The rears are especially good, very even wear and ideal for the next track outing, the fronts are OK for tread depth but all the edges are completely gone. I changed them as it has got much more squirrely (is that a word?) in the wet, especially in the Euro monsoon conditions and I don't fancy spanking the barrier.
Anyone got any extra track wheels yet?
Yes, bought a standard set to wrap around the PCCB's ... PSS's on them which I like in the cold and wet.
What was the damage? PM me if you like. Cheers
Something around £3k --- I'll check the invoice when I'm back in the UK --- the last thing I was prepared to worry about was any wheel related queries if my PCCB's don't last as long as I hope smile

Even so, I have had a stone trapped between the rim and the calliper which took a nice groove of paint out of both !

Does anyone ever find a break in the traffic, all I get is horse boxes, caravans and oap's in micra's - roads too crowded for fast cars?
14miles - 2pm on Sunday afternoon . Didn't see any cars either going our direction or coming the other way . We covered the distance a touch quicker than the estimated 25 ! Great last drive in the 4

Did you just leave it in 3rd lol

My issue is that what seems to happen ! Until you get tired of it then you use 4th to stop the constant noise !

I have had enough after 40 miles if on it as 3rd takes you upto crazy speeds.
I think people seem to change gear because they feel they need to, but in the real world 3rd does every thing, with the odd move into 2nd for tighter corners.

Great car over hyped for road use and not the feel of a GT3 for track use.
Can see mine being sold :-( The Cayman R is again the better and more fun road car for 1/2 the money.

more feel, less grip and lower gearing.

The long ratios don't bother me tbh, but remember that my car is new, so only taking it to 4,000rpm. For the roads I was driving, 3rd and 4th were about what I'd expect anyway.

Side note - For clarification, it was 150 miles, not 250 miles; no way could I achieve an average of 50mph on country lanes during peak holiday season.

For mrD
IMO the Cayman R is nothing more than a 987 Gts and is totally over hyped over the regular 987.2 !A bit like what you say about the 981 spyder !
I have driven/ owned every model of cayster for 13 years bar a 981 spyder and the gt4 is the best so far ! Although I still hold the 987 spyder in high regard as a special car but could be better ( more power/ torque )also the same can be said for the Gt4 ie passive shocks , shorter ratios and a buzzier top end but then the cayster has always been held back! The CR could have been a fantastic car if they had given it a power upgrade like the gt4 a unique body like the 987 spyder and not the silly halfords spoiler that is there for what! A back to back test with my 987.1 CS it felt no quicker on the road although the lsd pulled it out of tight corners quicker!
Now if porsche built a 981R like the 991R using the 430 ps 3.8 x51 engine that would be a fantastic car!
Imo a good daily would be a 987.2 non PASM car on 18 wheels with sports seats!
Weekend soft top 987spyder or any non pasm , manual 987.2 BOXSTER

Yeah, GT4 is much more enjoyable to drive than the CR or 987 Spyder - which I owned. Spyder was good, but GT4 on another level IMO.

but you have not even ran it in yet ! so what revs have you been upto with only 700 miles on the clock !

All these people saying how great they are have done very little miles lol. can be seen by the other poster which is keeping it to 4k revs lol

when you say best ? best at what ?

hence why I keep my 987.2 Spyder and it's fully modded, with sus, manafolds etc with 310lbft torque matching the GT4's and only weighing in at 1250kg's !

I could do the same to the R and very tempted to do so.

you already long for the quite major 3 down sides of the GT4 to be improved, power, gearing and shocks !!! and if you are on stock geo I don't even know how you can like it at all lol ! the cars so understeery stock, I changed mine asap. although at normal road speeds that is hidden due to the MASSIVE grip and mega turn in. I was blown away at 1st but now on 3k miles the short coming come to the surface !

The R wins as a road car sorry, come and visit me, I have all 3 and lets go for a drive, I'll convert you :-)

I am on my 2nd R that speaks volumes for the car and many people on here will stick up for the R these days, it's just taken a while !

as I said people change gear for NO reason , even in mag reviews, or track vids you see people changing gear then changing back down again in seconds !!!

3rd goes to 113mph just don't bother going upto 4th ! but people do because they feel they need to change gear !!!

the GT4 needs a software tune, it kicks at 5k and is gone way before red line , it's not that nice, the 3.4 just revs to red line it's great to drive.
GT cars and detuned engines don't go hand in hand !!!

and yes guess what the race car boys are getting in the CS cars !!

passive shocks
a data package
smaller wheels (well they had that already) !
70kg weight saving
and they get the shorter PDK gearing anyway, along with the smaller wheels for over all lower gearing !

says it all ! the road cars flawed as is !!

yes still a great car, people read me the wrong way and think I am saying it's a st car, GT4 is a great car and nothing at £75k comes close new to buy any where else.

I prefer my GT4 to my ex-CR ---

On track the GT4 is for me in a different league to the CR.

On the road --- much as I like PDK, I still wouldn't go back to the CR.

Porsche911R still posting constant drivel I see.

I have had access to an R and have to respectfully disagree its a better road car (even when prepped for fast road use). Its a good car but not a better road car I am sure 90% of people who have driven both will agree. Obviously not you with your driving prowess and god like capabilities, you obviously have the skills and connection with a car way beyond a mere mortal.

Shame I am sure you are a lovely guy but for the love of god, every time I pop on the board to see how others are enjoying theirs I have to wade through pages of drivel from you trying to prove your point over and over again.

So a plea from me...... Please feel free to sell your GT4 (like you have alluded to a few times over the odd month I check in) and go bore / argue with some poor owners of another car!

I'd made me mind up in the short drive home from the OPC that the GT4 was a better car. The main thing the Spyder had going for it was VFM - cheap thrills, cheap car, and at £40k they were a good ride. The GT4 instantly feels more quality from the looks to the drive of it. Feels like a 'GT' product.

So because I'm still bedding in the engine, it means I can't suggest that the car is amazing?!?! Compared with the Cayman R before, the GT4 is on another level completely, makes the Cayman R nothing more than a parts bin special and I absolutely loved that car. In any case, had no issue with windows open driving.

It sounds like you are looking for every excuse to hate the car. No idea why you don't just sell it and move on (please!). From what I remember too, your GT4 remained on about 70 miles for quite some weeks; so talk is cheap!

I cannot take you serious at all ! My talk is from experience , doing 3k miles and a few track days, it's not cheap !
All you have posted so far is you get held up every where !

Every 981' 991 etc blows your head windows open ! You would have to say black is white to say any other.
Come back to me on it.

As for parts bin lol what's a GT4 if not a parts bin but with detuned parts and bits missing so one cannot adjust the sus.
It's a fking joke.

So much a joke the race cars need all the things I pointed out were flawed 10 months ago at pec , Funny that !

you could not make it up really.

But people will keep oem and just put up with it, I modded my car day one, and you say talk is cheap, yours will stay stock for as long as you own it.

Your R was stock also and that has major issues stock.

Ah , that old chestnut - I have a solution, try adopting a really simple strategy : before I read a post , I check who its from and it's from one person on here (who will remain nameless) I simply , genuinely never look at it- it really works , stops me wasting time , stops me getting frustrated and it doesn't take away from being able to follow the thread - works very nicely , give it a try.

I'm not saying this person doesn't sometimes have value to add , its just the risk of irritation is too great , so I just skip them smile

I try that but cannot believe the bullst posted.

I posted my review 10 months ago, now the Motorsport dept are addressing every single issue I say was flawed.
While every one else had wet pants at pec.

The bloody hype on every single new car 911R inc is pure market bullst and people here fall for it.
The forum seems more full of trophy hunters these days which is a shame.
