What are people using their cars for?
Sunday drive, track days, daily drive?
.........................And I'm too prescious to park it anywhere for going to the shops! Love it though - even for just going into the garage for a look
Herein lies your fundamental problem.Sunday drive, track days, daily drive?
.........................And I'm too prescious to park it anywhere for going to the shops! Love it though - even for just going into the garage for a look
It's made to be used and driven and enjoyed at the end of the day it's a Cayman (with lots of spangly bits) but it's still a Cayman. It's not an irreplaceable alloy bodied D-type it's a mass produced mid range sports car. The vast majority of people will just walk past it in the street and it won't even register. A small number will admire it for what it is and you might get the odd camera phone pap. Grit your teeth, drive it whenever and wherever you can. Park it wherever you like and stop bloody worrying.
In ten years you will look back and remember how good it was to drive not regret how few times you used it.
All IMHO of course.
correct it is a do it all car, based on a road car so a daily should be it's main use, it's not as good at the other 2 things.
track work will need mods and be expensive to run as a track hack, Sunday driver does not have that magic feel of an older car.
Although it will pass at the latter 2 well hence an all round car.

Will my (stock) GT4 pass Castle Combe's noise test?
"All vehicles must comply to the strict noise limit of 100db(A), which is measured at ½ metre from the exhaust outlet at 4500rpm."
Not sure on that track, but I've seen GT4's produce 102db in normal mode and 107db in sport mode. At Oulton the limit I think is 105db, so means you press the sport button once you get checked "All vehicles must comply to the strict noise limit of 100db(A), which is measured at ½ metre from the exhaust outlet at 4500rpm."

Castle Combe also have some 105db days. Porsche Club days are all 105db - see "All vehicles must comply to the strict noise limit of 100db(A), which is measured at ½ metre from the exhaust outlet at 4500rpm."

No issue at Snetterton "All vehicles must comply to the strict noise limit of 100db(A), which is measured at ½ metre from the exhaust outlet at 4500rpm."

No chance of next one being turbo imo.
Turbocharging is to help efficiency targets and eu regulations being met.... there will always be space for cars made in small volumes relative to the rest of the line up from a manufacturer to br made in NA if the manufacturer wants to.. and for Porsche its like to become a USP on their GT3/4 cars and maybe even 911 GTS

"Following on the tradition of the 1957 718 with its flat-four engine, the 718 model range builds on this heritage with new flat-four turbo engines developed by Porsche"
Admittedly they don't say EXCLUSIVELY four cylinder engines. But it feels to me that they are saying the 718 is now a 4 cylinder car. I suspect the next GT4 will also be 4 cylinder. Because it wont be a Cayman GT4, it will be a 718 Cayman GT4. And 718's are four cylinder cars.
But who knows!

Good to see, that was on a 105db day?Quick question for anyone who has LWB's and doesn't mind getting the measuring tape out!
Would anyone be able to tell me what the width is of the seat base between the bolsters?
I'm picking mine up in a couple of weeks and wanted to take my daughter home from the dealership in it but need to know if I can fit her car seat between the bolsters.
Cheers,
AS

Who says the next GT4 will be part of the 718 range? They could just call it the 'Porsche GT4' and stick an NA 6-pot in it, That's what I think will happen."Following on the tradition of the 1957 718 with its flat-four engine, the 718 model range builds on this heritage with new flat-four turbo engines developed by Porsche"

GTSs will be turbos for both 718s (4-pots) and 911s (6-pots) I reckon.

Yes no way the GTS 911 facelift will be a normally aspirated either. Its performance is just so far off the mark compared to the turbos...GTSs will be turbos for both 718s (4-pots) and 911s (6-pots) I reckon.

I hope your daughter is over twelve & of a higher stature than the norm.
Certainly don't want to rain on you parade but Porsche categorically state that if a child needs the use of a child seat i.e.
Is under the weight/height stipulations for independently using an adult front seat, then a child cannot be seated on the LWBs. There is no provision for turning off the airbag hence a triggering of the bag could prove lethal for a small child.
I have the same dilemma in my CGTS, hopefully your daughter is older than my 10 year old grandchild.
