Hi Steve,
Tempted to come along and see how my little Cayman beastie shapes up alongside its bigger brothers. Any chance of squeezing into a garage somewhere ?

Jamie

Thanks, I've actually booked a garage too as a friend with an M3 racecar will be coming along with me.

I will take up your offer if it's still available, mine's the Guards Red GT4.

Can the Donnington garages take 3? If so can I join you with my white GT4? Happy to contribute and will bring doughnuts...

If my GT4 is due to be at the dealers in mid-June, when would you envisage the build to begin? I'm told to expect 3 weeks from end of build to ownership, but don't know how long the car is in build.
Sorry, can anyone confirm just how long a car is physically in a build for? Not what happens on either side.

You'll only get two cars in a Donington garage but to be honest the only thing they're needed for on track days is somewhere to store stuff, make tea and shelter from the rain. So I'm sure you'll be able to store stuff in any one of the garages that the Cayman contingent have booked and just park your car in the paddock next to it. smile

Mine went to build on 5th Feb and arrived at dealer on about last day Feb. I collected it on March 2nd.

Interesting, so given about 3 weeks from end of build, they have the car fully assembled in about a week; impressive. I'll wait a week or two then before asking my OPC if it has entered that phase.

From my experience, they knew when it entered build and when it arrived at Emden docs, nothing in the middle. The variables then are then when it leaves on the African Princess and when it leaves Grimsby on the transporter.

I was told on 21st April it was in build and that it would be completed on 6th May. I don't know if it went into build on the 21st, just that when I asked that day it was confirmed as being on the production line.

I guess after this Friday it will disappear into the black hole of "being shipped somewhere"

It is a shame they don't offer a tracking system like some manufacturers do. I'm sure even VW do which allows you to follow it through the build stages etc.

Given that they factory will know where every part of your car is it shouldnt be rocket science to do. The production line could email you direct that its entered the paint shop etc.

The PCM on the GT 4 is crap, as is the tracking system - Porsche are behind on technology. And are control fans.

Yes but I'd rather a car that was superb to drive than a tech laden 'smart car'...

I'm all for back to basics on a car like a GT4. My Cayenne on the other hand through.... Yes new PCM would be nice but its still useable.

Most theft tracking systems allow you to track where the car is, activity etc but not the Porsche VTS system - an example of how archaic their technology is smile

I believe Elforfin was thinking more along the lines of the BMW system of tracking?
This was our M3 -

Every week we got an update, with one or two more blocks showing the progress.

It takes 2 weeks to build a porker, who cares really !

You get a build date 2 weeks later it's built.

The issue with locating the car seems to be when it's left the factory and landed in the UK it just vanishes for 3 weeks.

even the BMW system is st between blocks 9 and 10 as that is where the car vanishes.

the BMW blocks just tell you when it left the factory, you can get that from your OPC, and when it lands at the dealers, again you can get that from your OPC as they now have it !

The blocks may look fancy but really tell you nothing.
