Sounds like fun, will there be a full report we can look forward to seeing in due course ??
It was superb! - I will let Chris and David fill you in on the technical GT4 stuff. Spyder ran through another set of rear pads - bloody PTV!Edited by W12JFD on Sunday 22 May 16:59
So I tried out the PASM sport button today for the first time and imo it transforms the car and should be a default setting!
Now coming from a 987 spyder the pasm sport setting just felt right and even my wife as a passenger noticed the difference in a good way and this was round our not so good country lanes and not a race track! think I might be driving in pasm sport mode all the time now as it is not as harsh as what I expected and really becomes compliant on the move! The steering also seemed to improve with more weight and feel or am I just imagining this? Maybe the passive set up on the 981 spyder is really better for road use?

Another thing I noticed today the more I drive the car is that you can really notice that the engine has been restricted ie the smaller throttle body,it reminds of when I started to ride restricted 50cc motorcycles the favorite restriction to keep power down was to restrict the fuel/air going in! Would a full size throttle body of a 3.8 not only improve power but fuel mpg as the car breathes more efficiently ?
Did a road trip before the trackday
saw the sun for 3 minutes Friday :-) but the cars pops when the suns out.
that's straight out the iPhone no saturation !
Track day was great, just went in the PM, took a while to get my brain into track mode, but the last session with the Spyder was great.
Geo is very good on the car, tyres are holding up no issue, messed about with pressures, went too low on 3rd run and it felt too soft, so another 2 psi in hooked the car just in time for the last run.
Should get the PSI right for Donny once we check with pyro.
Most cars were killing the front left as normal at that track ,Chris and James seems to have killed theirs lol or :-(
I am really happy with the set up, was a good 1st guess and imo going less rear Camber worked very well than what the USA crew are doing.
Car slides if you try and get on throttle pre apex and is controllable, having -2.3 up front hooks the car on the bends and is a great road setup.
the Spyder with some LCA, Toe links with cups would be great . always thought x73 works a treat and the lower CoG always helps.
I love my old Spyder on track with that setup.
Steel brakes are awesome, no fade what so ever, but a pad with more bite on 1st touch would work better for me.
my car had bags of time in it imo which is nice to learn into, my 1st track day in the GT4 so was just getting the feel of it all, I think the Spyder and Chris Gt4 are both at the limit at their settings. While I was a tad slower on the day, the car has a lot more to give me, although the last session I pushed the car a bit more and stayed with James and it was a great 4 or 5 laps with both cars :-)
I am sure Chris will have to go more focused other wise the tyres will not last and a set of rear toe links and some shims will sort that.
The Spyders a tricky one, it goes bloody well as is and keeps the GT4's on stock settings honest, and to go more takes a lot more parts.

I'll also be interested to hear if your set up is equally as good at Donington, as that'll be my first track day in the GT4 on the 30th June, after a visit to CG.
I just timed my laps on gopro and I was faster last year in my Spyder by 2 seconds.
but hay a GT4 learning curve and 1st time out with it, and my 1st track day in 7 Months, also only did 20 laps due to NO fuel !!
Bloody car drinks fuel, 12 mpg on the EVO tringle and about 7 mpg on track !
Did not get a gopro of the last session which was faster of course than my Gopro laps, so be interesting to see if James has a lap time or not for the last session.
As I reported though my car has bags of time in it and my brain was not in track attack mode Sat, just wanted to get a feel for the car.

Be interesting to see post geo what kind of front tyre wear you are seeing.
I get the impression that this car is heavy on front tyres even with geo....unless you go for extreme track setup....suspension may be on the softer side too.
I guess these are general comments as much depends on your driving style and pace as well.

last session I ran to the front left outter limit so yes would need even a more extreme track geo, for major track use. but at the expense of road use then for sure, and wet use. We did EVO tringle in a down poor of rain on Cups and the car was still great.I get the impression that this car is heavy on front tyres even with geo....unless you go for extreme track setup....suspension may be on the softer side too.

fuel is the biggest issue on track as it's dire !

I think Chris used three tanks of fuel and was close to empty when leaving the circuit...so I followed him for the 10 miles or so to the petrol station to make sure he didn't run out before he got there!I'm tracking mine next month, what tyre pressures are people running?
Good points 911r - but should you really be spending all that time and money on tuning just to keep up with a fat middle aged bloke in a hairdressers car? Only kidding!! (Well, a bit!!) I did have a significant advantage as I was at the track the week before on the GS and know it well.
My front tyre damage was due to failing to drop pressures when the sun came out. Managed five or six track days on the last PZero and have concluded I'm happy to trade longevity for grip and won't be moving up to Cup Twos.
Cheers

Quick q for this who have made setup changes to their cars.
Where is the point at which it becomes necessary/appropriate to inform your insurer that you have "modified" your car?
0. Tyre pressures (obviously no)
1. Changed ARB setting (presumably no)
2. Alignment/geo with OE components only (again, presumably no)
3. Shims for camber (not sure, is this really different to balance weights on the wheels for example? )
4. New (not OE) toe-links etc (presumably yes)
I understand fully that you can play safe by telling them everything you do.
Thanks in advance.

James, don't understand your last comment. You think the P Zero's will last longer than Cup2's?
I'm not sure - I think 7k miles including track was pretty good for the front and possibly better than Cups. Also I'd need to put 245 Cups on against 235 PZero and that would probably invalidate the warranty. - plus it would make the car even faster and that would be unfair to others! W12JFD said:

Around 150 of the miles were on track --- the rest were to and fro --- managed an average of a little more than 10 mpg ????
And this was the score on the door, MPSuperSports and yes, the shoulder on the front nearside is now rather worn !
On the Thursday the forecast was for rain --- as it turned out I should have left the Cup2's on !!
