Cool first world problem to have bro, vote with your feet and buy from the dealer that made you feel special if that's what is important to you. I would buy the best car at any one time and not really care about having my ass wiped, but that's just me.
And me , never heard anything so trivial

I was given a bottle of champers, Porsche coat, extra PEC experience and a few other little bits.
Surely you weren't "given" anything were you? You've paid for it through your purchase of the car.

Simple handover and a good deal/easy sale for me everytime. Here's your keys, it's parked out front and ready to go. Happy days.

This thread proves that the most important thing in retail is to know your customer. Ask them what they would like - clearly some want an efficient, no fuss handover, whilst others want the full-on experience. Don't assume... but unfortunately most of them do.

Personally, when spending a decent amount of money I like to think my business is appreciated, so I do like a little bit of gratitude. And yes, it matters - my first new 911 (996 C4S) was from Kendal, where it wasn't prepared well and after pretty much having the keys thrown at me with no ceremony or gifts (I had to ask for a key ring) I wasn't even waved off. I didn't buy anything from them after that. Wilmslow got better over time, and they made a fuss of my wife with her Cayenne GTS that made her feel really special. We bought more cars from them.

It's interesting that experiences vary so much and I would have had. I expectations of the 2nd handover had I not recently had a very different experience myself. It was also soured by a number of stone chips on the bonnet but that's a separate issue.

And yes this is relatively trivial and a 1st world problem but I would say a lot (most?) of things discussed on PH most people outside of the community would think are in the same bracket.

In and out as fast as I can, far better for both parties.

I would hate to be associated with the red carpet, list writing, martini jacketed trinket collector type, arriving with family in tow and red hot iPhones. Stratospheric levels of cringe.

Had some work done at a local OPC, gear box issues on RS, mechanic was lovely guy, passionate and well into the early aircooled. Got him some wine when collecting it and offered he take it for a proper drive...far better that way round.

I wanted a nice hand over for my wife's first Macan. It was her first new Porsche and the dealer did a good job. She had been waiting for a couple of years and I wanted to make it a nice occasion for her. On her second one I just asked for it to be as quick as possible!

Given the dealers get a massive kick in the @ss from Porsche if they don't do a good job on hand over (when you fill in the customer feedback form) then its a bit of a shock some dealers are not even doing hand overs inside!

Mine yesterday was somewhere in the middle of everyone's experiences/wants by the sound of it. Car under cover in the showroom (it was brand new), couple of keyrings/mugs, paperwork sorted, good old car chat while sorting out paperwork/waiting for the bad weather to subside! No flowers, no butt kissing, just a nice experience. Perfect.

I would imagine a lot depends on your sales person and the relationship you have with them.

I am 100% with you here. I only ever focus on the car and the deal. All the rest is utter bull crap to divert your attention away from what is really important.

I have bought a few cars over the years where I literally could not stand the salesman.

Its the car that matters. Buy the best car!

I used to love handing over cars . I was usually as excited as the customers were. It is also a time when you can cement a bond between you and them. For a lot of people buying a new (or used) vehicle is a big deal for them, something that they do not do that often. If the sales person can just go that little extra mile chances are he will see them again for a future purchase. When I collected at an agreed time my GT3 and subsequent RS they were under cover inside the showroom by the door cleaned to perfection with a tank of fuel. Before we left Amanda was presented with a really nice bouquet and we were waved off by the DP the SM and Emma my salesperson. Perfect I felt special! Totally professional with no unnecessary trinkets other than a Porche jacket that I had blagged!! Friend of mine went to collect his new F.type, salesman gave him his keys and told him it was parked up the side of the showroom and that there were some flowers in the boot!!!
This is what I got from Porsche Centre Belfast on all three occasions I bought a Porsche from them, I enjoy it and it helps build and cement a relationship that continues in the future. Carl and Ben in Belfast are superb.

Very helpful and inciteful - I knew there was a reason I was still a member of PH
Just looking at your car history I believe you have had a total of 9 Porsches in the past, what exactly do you want to get from PH on this? You have plenty of experience buying Porsches so should know the drill by now?!?!?
Sorry, just realised that I never responded to this - yes I've been fortunate to own several Porsches but always from Porsche Swindon who did a nice handover but never over the top. My reason for asking is that I know my experience but not that of others, surely that's the idea of forums? This were my first cars from different OPCs and I was surprised by how different these experiences were.

Hope that answers your query.

On another note I've been lent a 991.2 C4S Cab for a few days, nice car but turbo engine sounds nowhere near as nice and defo needs the sports exhaust, also this one's got the assisted steering whatnot and it's so so light - not good.

I must be the most easy going bloke in the world. I just want the keys and I'll work the rest out myself. I'm a happy soul that doesn't need smoke blowing up anywhere as long as they do as they say they'll do i.e. car not ready...grrrrr.

I think it depends. For our first Macan I wanted it to be special for the wife, she waited so long for it. No smoke blown anywhere but for me its like not wrapping a birthday gift. I am pretty sure most people do that....

This is a car we had never seen or test driven. Was actually quite nervous just before the cover came off! Just on the off chance they got the colour wrong or something. Our second one, 18 months later, not bothered. Sign paperwork. Keys. Go.

I had also arranged a little surprise for the wife too as black window trims were not available when we ordered and she really wanted them but managed to get them put on just before it went into production. smile
