Constantly.

Dribble.
And sob a lot.

Constantly.

Almost p/x-ed my 993 Manual C2 two weeks ago for an E60 M5. If it was a coupe I wouldn't have even considered it, but since it's a Cab and I already have a Boxster and 620R, the 993 seemed unnecessary and a car that we could go on road trips with our baby daughter seemed a bit more sensible. Plus I've always wanted an M car and that V10 cloud9. Then I had an awesome drive to the dealer and back in it and couldn't bring myself to let her go in the end, too much fun, too many memories.

Still bought the M5 mind smile Man maths ftw!

I would only sell if you want a new experience

I have a 9934S that I have had for 15 years

Never ever would I sell it - just a great car

A real Porsche

But if you are not in love with the car , take the money and smile

Aldous Voice (Voicey) keeps a monthly record of the movement in Ferrari 360 prices on his webpage. Does anyone keep something similar for 993s?

Prices have softened of late -- not a big dip...just a few non collector spec cars have taken longer to sell than the sellers expected..

Of course all of the above is in the bin if we have a major economic situation! You know, like leaving the EU or some such! biggrin
I'm really interested in this.

Is this the right time to sell a 993? Has the threat of leaving the EU led to a softening of prices? Are people holding off big toy purchases until after the referendum results? If there's a vote to leave, will now be the time to sell as the economy is going to tank afterwards?

Some big questions there fella. I suspect that if there is a belief that leaving the EU will have a significant effect on the UK economy then the value of your 993 will be the least of your problems!

What effect it would or wouldn't have is of course open for debate. But nobody knows for sure.

As to whether people are holding off major purchases until the vote and any effects are clear, I am sure some are yes, but how many, who knows!

However, none of this is a reason to sell (Or buy!) a 993. Now, if you were looking to invest billions into property in the South East, that may be a different story!

Fair enough! My question was, I suppose "is the market for old Pork affected by the threat of Brexit?" This fits with OP's original timing question, and I guess the answer is largely no.

Still, would be interested in a 993 price index as these cars are possibly going to show a different pattern to a Ferrari 360.

Agreed...

On the original question;

I just don't get it, if the OP bought the car to 'drive/enjoy/etc' then continue doing that...

If he bought it as an investment then wrap it up in cotton wool & hope for the best! Much like dabbling in any investment IMO! smile

what's hard to get? maybe he did but fancies a change - there are other nice cars in the world than a 993

FWIW I think now is a good time to sell if you aren't going to replace with another car of similar value inflaton, bubbles burst

All very interesting.

To muddy the waters further the car is registered as a cat d from 12 years ago. Although no Porsche mechanic has yet been able to show me any damage repairs!

I bought the car at a discount as it enabled me to acquire a 993 for less than the market value.

I'm guessing that the eventual purchaser will be doing the same. I've been advised that a 20% reduction in price might be in order.

"the time has come to sell"

My point is that if he wants to sell a car that was never bought to be an investment, then he should sell it!

I'm sorry to say that nobody on this forum is able to answer the question "will it continue to rise" with anything more than a guess. I personally feel it's a shame that values seem to be such an important part the of car ownership experience. My career makes me money, not cars, I just sold my 993 & I genuinely couldn't care less if it now goes up or down!

What's all this Nazi Hitler stuff?

Ok good old Herr Porsche developed the People's car ...... But that doesn't make him a Nazi. Well ok he designed a tank or two.

But who hasn't biggrin

Personally on the sale front OP, I doubt you bought as an investment and I'd assume the price has doubled ...... So if it halves in the next five years (which I doubt) you have lost nothing.

totally agree, but OP asked for opinions so I gave mine

mine has no more value than anyone else's but may offer an alternative to the 993 owners who will generally say "never sell a 993, best cars ever, if you sell you will never own one again as soon they will be worth millions etc etc" wink

As has been alluded to the question should be; 'will I want one again in the future?' If the answer is yes don't sell. I've accepted that if I sold I'll have to accept I'll never have one again.

Buying a 993 is total PITA.

Edited graph:

I've cut that graph to the decision moment at point B.
If you can work out what happens next, reliably, then you can make about a trillion dollars.

Eg, look at this one and work out what happens next?

Because wait longer (4 times longer) and you get this

and *most importantly* what preceded it was this

All of which has wasted a nice 10 mins here on my lunchbreak, and proves nothing..
