Speaks volumes this...
I also agree on the R...the stripes don't work as the car is too big.
I detest the rear spoiler on my 997RS, and the silly stickers. It's very much an 'ip early mountain hooner', if I need to drive it through town on way back then balaclava and sunglasses are worn.
I have no problems with the 2.7 ducktail and RS mega wing. They are fixed and part of the core design of the car. This thread is about extending retractable spoilers when not required by the car's systems. It's done by people who think it looks cool and want their car to look more like your two cars above. I also agree on the R...the stripes don't work as the car is too big.

As for not being allowed to mention running on your legs on Pistonheads forums, that is simply the stupidest thing I've read on here today, and right up there with 'retractable spoiler extended while parked' muppetry.
That's just it, you said: "On an early morning run through my village I was highly amused to see an Agate Grey Cayman GTS. Reg G N1OLAN driving past the school at 20mph, with the spoiler raised, thus immediately confirming the points made on this thread."...when you should have clarified in greater detail by saying: "On an early morning run (on my legs, not to be misinterpreted as a run in my car as is highly likely to be the case on this, a motoring forum) through my village I was highly amused to see an Agate Grey Cayman GTS. Reg G N1OLAN driving past the school at 20mph, with the spoiler raised, thus immediately confirming the points made on this thread.
Nobody said you couldn't mention running (on your legs). In fact I'm sure you spot more tragic car blunders on foot or feet (or legs) than when running around in your car (on tyres, which are on wheels, which are on your car).

So with you on this. Nice problem to have though I also agree on the R...the stripes don't work as the car is too big.

Certainly don't agree with that statement
I was not asking for a consensus, I was expressing my opinion and my experience, too manycocks who cant drive with kid on fast cars bought for parking at the golf club and in the driveway,
come up against them on the road and they s***e it. The best drivers I have known are 911 Turbo drivers,
especially tuned turbos where a mixture of big balls and talent are a necessary ingredient, or you
wont have it long. Its so damn easy to ring the neck of anything naturally aspirated when you adapt to big
turbo power.......Unless you are a crap driver of course stepping up from your BMW or Audi.
So put that in your pipe and smoke it.

And I dare say a GT2 is doing the kind of speeds that spoiler is making a difference. I really stuggle with my 986 spoiler...it looks ste when it's up, seems to be more of an MPG sapping air brake than a downforce device, (er, Veyron in lunatic mode for example) and the bit in the handbook where it explains that if the warning light comes on drive slowly to a dealer as handling is compromised seems a bit optimistic at best...
I'm pretty sure the rear spoiler on most cars, is more to reduce lift by disturbing the airflow over the car. For proper 'downforce', you need big, high wings - that's why they're called spoilers (they spoil the airflow). As for compromised handling if removed, anyone remember the first Audi TT? Quite snappy on lift off, fixed (mostly) by a spoiler to reduce lift over the rear wheels...
On a lighter note...

Running is the Devil's work. Wash your mouth our with super unleaded.Variation is good, if everybody liked the same thing, we'd all be driving the same, dull, stbox cars!

At least it covers up the porsche massive name...I think it's all going down hill why do porsche now find the need to now put porsche 911 carrera on the back of the 911, so the posers can make sure nobody confuses it with a 'boxster' ....YoungMD said:
