After a spirited bit of driving yesterday, my PDK box locked itself into 2nd gear and put a warning on the dash that there was a fault and R (reverse?) may not be available. Close to home back into a 30, so just drove home.

Car is sub 12k miles and not yet 3 years old, so still well in warranty.

Switching off/on 'seems' to have fixed it, but just wondered if anyone else had this happen and is it the sign of impending gearbox doom?

Could be taken as a plus point for the more simple manual box and certainly one for keeping a warranty!

I was warned by an Indy that PDKs weren't particularly troublesome - but were VERY expensive to fix. So if you are of a nervous disposition a warranty might be a good idea. It may just be a software glitch but it's obviously a no-brainer to let your Porsche centre look at it. My box hasn't (touch aluminium) had any tantrums so far, and it would ring alarm bells if it did.

The cost is huge as they don't seem to repair the PDK boxes at all. Replacement is always costly with Porsche.

Given it a 50 mile 'workout' today and all seems well, with the dash message centre showing no notifications, so I'm hoping just an electrical glitch?

Going to report it to OPC on Tuesday, just in case the ECU has logged it and it goes pop in a months time; don't want them saying "you should've brought it straight in"!

If you were to have a bigger problem in the future which needed attention from Porsche, could they deny and/or be difficult about a warranty claim given the car has previously flagged an issue and you've ignored it?

Wouldn't put it past them?

That would be my concern so good on you for reporting it to them.

Hello all - long time lurker here but just thought I would contribute my recent experience

I have a 2013 (63) 981 2.7 PDK and mine too threw up what appears to be the same code as yours roughly 3 weeks ago - it cropped up during a cross-country drive and after ten minutes and a re-start it disappeared and I've never seen the error since.

I dropped it in to the OPC to have the fault read. The car reported no lingering fault codes etc. they have advised that it may have become too hot and thus just restricted the use - presumably to allow whatever it is to cool down?

No further action for now - the fault has not reappeared.

Apart from the above the car drives fabulously!

Edit: Added a pic I took at the time just in case OPC were funny with me... smile

Cheers Danny, I suspect mine will turn out to be the same - booked in for next Wed, just to check it out.

Very, very unlikely that the car would put that fault up on the dash but record absolutely nothing in the fault memory.

One would hope so!

I suspect the ECU has logged it, but no notifications/messages in the driver information system?

Yep, that's possible. I was really responding to Danny's post saying he'd had the light on but the OPC couldn't find a fault code.

Update: The ECU had recorded a fault with one of the hydraulic solenoid valves, which the OPC has cleared and want to monitor if it occurs again.

I will definitely be renewing the warranty in October, although the cynic in me might think it was preprogrammed to elicit that very reaction wink

Will follow this with interest as a quick google shows we are not the only ones with this particular fault message.

I had always planned to continue with the warranty so no change there. On the plus side, plenty of miles since my fault occurred and no errors since (touch wood...!) Driving yesterday and everything just feels as tight and responsive as it ever has - still absolutely loving this car biggrin
